Prepare yourself for a nonstop Leia-fest. The New Republic's new leader is back in bondage again, but at least this time she doesn't have Jabba the Hut slobbering all over her. Kidnapped after a clandestine mission to the former prison-planet Nam Chorios goes awry, Leia relies on her wits, her ever-developing Jedi powers (including some mean saber-swinging), and her pals to escape, survive, and resolve the conflict on the desolate planet. Han, Chewie, and Lando may get short shrift in Planet of Twilight, but Luke gets in some good scenes on the trail of Force-sensitive babe Callista, and the droids provide more than their share of laughs. While veteran writer Hambly doesn't subscribe to the admittedly entertaining shut-up-and-start-blasting school of Star Wars writing, her skilled characterizations and more literary stylings are a welcome addition to the fold. --Paul Hughes -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Taschenbuch .

From Booklist

Hambly's previous Star Wars novel, Children of the Jedi (1995), was arguably the finest in the successful movie spin-off series. This one is just as good. On a grisly desert planet called Nam Chorios, two factions are battling for power. One kidnaps Leia Organa Solo, sending Han, Luke, and the two droids on a desperate chase after her, with Luke also seeking his beloved Callista, who is supposed to be on Nam Chorios. Meanwhile, one faction spreads a murderous plague, and remnants of the overthrown empire threaten to join the party. In due course, everybody is united on Nam Chorios--Luke after a starship crash, Leia after a hairbreadth escape, and Han and the droids after surviving a planetary crisis (a savage parody of current real-world Balkan warfare). Eventually, Luke realizes that Callista must go on alone until she regains her Force powers, the crystals that are being exported from Nam Chorios as weapons are recognized as sapient life-forms, and our old friend Admiral Daala at last abandons the crumbling imperial cause for the cause of peace. Hambly is superior to most of the other SW authors at vivid world building, humor (she does Ce-ethreepio marvelously well), and understanding the characters. This book deserves an audience extending far beyond that of fans responding to its movie tie-in nature. Roland Green

Has anyone noticed that the Star Wars plots, with the exception of Timothy Zahn's, are being repeated over and over again? With the latest batch of one volume tales, a small crisis happens, someone goes to investigate, they uncover something that could destroy the universe and the New Republic, all the main characters get together, Luke usually gets injured, and they overcome insurmountable obstacles to save the day. Well, this book is the same thing. About the only thing that was even interesting was Leia and a Hutt having a lightsaber duel! Stick with the X-wing books and/or the original Zahn trilogy. Zahn's newest book also shows some potential to break out of the mold. Of course, if you've got a friend who bought this, go ahead and read it, but I wouldn't bother reading it.

You people are harsh! This book is not a classic battle of the Republic Vs. the Empire but it was a great new twist I thought. Besides this book, I have only read the Zahn books in the SW's series and lets face it Zahn is a SW master. But if you are looking for an interesting story where some former Admiral or General from the Empire doesn't mysteriously reappear out of hyper-space check this book out. I thought it was an a thought provoking enemy and the challenges that Luke and Leia face with the Force was also intriguing. My only negative comment on the book is the too perfect ending. When Liegus and Dalla found each other was too much, and unless she plans on continuing with these characters in future novels who cares what happens to them?

I'm very excited every time a new Star Wars book comes out, but it's true that in the past there have been some wrenching dissapointments, as all of Star Wars' values, themes and characteristics wander further and further from the original ideas. Hambly's attempts were unfortunately some of those. She really doesn't like Luke, does she? I think that after her attempt to hook him up with Callista failed due to its tremendous unpopularity with the readers, she decided to take revenge and just make him die of pain. When in this book is he NOT maimed and mutilated? I also have a problem with infested bugs taking over the Universe, headed by another bug who was originally meant to be a culinary dish. Taselda... a Jedi Knight, supposedly, turned into a dirty hag with rotten teeth and eating bugs come ON, some respect for the Jedi?! Leia spends the book as a drugged prisoner... And Luke never does come face to face with Callista, save for a brief mental exchange right at the end. It WAS the point of his trip to find her, wasn't it? But anyway, I guess I'm glad in a way he let it go, I have nothing against Callista as a character as long as she stays away from Luke. She can have Lando, Luke is marrying Mara and THAT is the best news to sweep the Galaxy so far. Somebody, PLEASE, make Tim Zahn the exclusive writer for Star Wars. People, petition!

Could be better
I enjoyed Children Of The Jedi (Also by Barbara Hambly), but this book was a letdown. Try Specter of the Past, or Jedi Search.

Ack! Shield your eyes from this awful book!
When someone writes a Star Wars book, you would think that the book would be about the Star Wars characters. Unfortunately, you're wrong in this case. Lesen Sie weiter...

Good book
Well, is a good book, is a nice story including the part when Leia accept that she is a jedi and when Luke it's going into his senses.

Could be worse.
I like the way Barbara gets us close to the characters, especially Luke and Leia (if not Han). Being stranded on a mostly barren planet for a whole novel is kind of different, but... Lesen Sie weiter...

This a really good book. Not a whole lot of action but has a great storyline. I'm sure it seems boring to those people that don't care for anything but action and fighting scenes. Lesen Sie weiter...
