4.0 von 5 Sternen Great stories, but annoying format 3. Februar 2012
Von Kid Kyoto - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This book reprints about 20 issues of the Star Wars Empire and Star Wars Rebellion series from the early 2000s. These stories are set in the 'rebellion era' between Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back and feature a lot of classic characters like Luke, Leia and Vader along with new creations. The stories are in full color but at a slightly smaller size allowing Dark Horse to give us 20 books for just $25.

You get:

GENERAL SKYWALKER - Luke meets a surviving trooper from the Clone Wars.

MODEL OFFICER - Vader hunts the rebels while exercising his typical management and people skills with the Imperial Officers.

IN THE SHADOWS OF THEIR FATHERS - Luke travels to a world that was once betrayed by a young Jedi named Anakin Skywalker.

THE AHAKISTA GAMBIT - A rebel agent and his team of renegade try to infiltrate and destroy an Imperial base.

SMALL VICTORIES - Luke and Leia lead a team of commandos to destroy an Imperial fueling depot, but it all comes down to one rookie to try and save the day.

VECTOR - In an annoying crossover with the Knights of the Old Republic (set several thousands of years before this book) Luke encounters an ancient Jedi possessed by an evil artifact. This reprint leaves out both the beginning of the crossover and the end... It really is just an annoyance.

BREAKING THE ICE - Tells the story of Han Solo and Princess Leia's relationship between the two films.

The stories are all good solid tales set firmly in the Star Wars universe, making good use of all 6 films and the expanded universe. The art is also good, the artists mostly use a realistic style and can handle likenesses of the famous actors and iconic ships. The coloring uses a lot of photoshop effects and sometimes looks a bit plastic but other than that I've no issues with the art.

The big problem with this book, and the first volume, is they seemed to pick random issues to reprint and reprinted them out of order. So we meet one character when he's a prisoner, but don't see him captured until the next story. A thrilling rescue story is summarized later but not reprinted in this book. And for Vector we get part 3 of a 4 part epic. Other characters just appear without a proper introduction. Presumably they were introduced in some other story that was not included.

Really the editors need to do a better job of reprinting these books in a way that makes sense. There's some good stories here, even some great ones, but it's just irritating to get random glimpses rather than a chronological reprinting.

5.0 von 5 Sternen We both highly recommend it! 11. August 2012
Von Kurt A. Johnson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Dark Horse Comics produced a great many comics set in the Star Wars universe. This book is a collection of ten stories that occur during the war between the Sith Empire and the Rebel Alliance. Most feature one of the Star Wars stars, including Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo and Princess Leia.

As you might expect from Dark Horse Publishing, even though each of the stories is written by, and illustrated by, a different team, each one seems to be very well made, and is a lot of fun to read. I have a young Star Wars fan in my house, and she enjoyed this book just as much fun as I did. We both highly recommend it!
4.0 von 5 Sternen Weird collection 13. Mai 2014
Von Giacomo L. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
The stories are interesting an well drawn (in a very modern style, which suits my liking), but for some reason the timeline is "shattered": after reading 1/2 of the stories, you may want to switch to "Other Sons of Tatooine" to read about stuff that you will otherwise see in flashback in the last 3 stories of this volume.

Even weirder, the first story takes place right after the second and I do not understand why they were collected in this order. Despite all of this, the Ahakista Gambit is a very strange, interesting, story, whit some insights into "Darksider" (Dark Jedi chased by the empire) and a hint of intelligence wars, something never directly addressed in the canon (with the exception of Mon Mothma's "many bothan died"

A nice read, overall
2.0 von 5 Sternen Let down 9. Dezember 2013

I've liked the the first At War with the Empire and The Other Sons of Tatooine. I had my hopes high and was let down badly. Most part of the comic is boring and meaningless. I didn't like In the Shadows of their fathers and The Ahakista Gambit at all. Vector was meaningless with only the two issues that were in the collection. Small victories was great, though!

How are you even supposed to read these three collections? I read the Other Sons before this and the Jorin Sol story was just a mess. I hope the next Star Wars omnibus I'll read will restore my faith.

Another omnibus collecting the At War with the Empire series. Dark Horse is doing the Star Wars universe justice while expanding it all the time with new fresh material.
