Although Return of the Jedi is considered by many to be the weakest of the three original Star Wars films, this is by far the best of the three novelisations. James Kahn's powers of description are stylish and assured and he plays to the strengths of the novel format, taking the opportunity to explore the inner thoughts and emotions of his characters in amongst the action sequences.
Of course, there is plenty of action, and Kahn handles the main set-pieces well. The struggle above the Sarlacc pit as Han Solo is rescued from Jabba the Hutt, the speeder bike chase amongst the giant trees of Endor, and the final extended battle as it intercuts between the two space fleets, the surface of the forest moon of Endor and Luke's struggle with Darth Vader and the evil Emperor, all of these are fast-paced and evocative, bringing back memories of forgotten visual details from the film. Personally, I do not like James Kahn's writing style, but other than that, I had no problem with this book.
Even if you have seen the movie and have it memorized, you will gain something from reading this book. Being able to get into characters' heads and know what they are thinking and feeling allows you to get a lot out of the story. And, the Ewoks are not as painful or irritating in print as they are on film!
The characters are well written, and Kahn stays true to their personalities. A good read, and it doesn't take long to finish. Highly reccomended to any fan of Star Wars.
Format:Taschenbuch
This is a great addition to the movie, and it helped me somewhat with names like Max Reebo, Oola, and Wicket. As you can tell, I'm one of those who love the ewoks and don't care if they are little teddy bears. If you don't like them, well, skip some of the chapters and fast forward the movie. If you love them, then this is the book for you. If you're interested in other star wars books, read this one first followed with The Truce at Bakura. Buy it - it's worth it.

This is the last chapter in the Star Wars MOVIE saga but only the begining in the novels saga. Luke finds out some stunning secrets and uses them to the best of his knowledge to bring down the EMPIRE. He finds out the power of the dark side but doesn't give into his hatred! This book is a battle of knowledge between good and evil in my mind! Pure STAR WARS adventure! BUY IT! :)

It captures the settings and feel of the movie perfectly

It is really a shame how the best SW movie is the worst tie-in novel. After reading the first two, I quickly started this book. How I wished it would end.
