I heard the audio cassete version of this story by checking it out of the library. My mom, not even really a great fan of Star Wars, listened to it with me and we finished it the same day. I am now listening to it again. The actors do a wonderful job and as always the music and soiund effects make it sound like the battle is in your own room. This is the best! Great to see Wedge Antilles at the end. Mirith Sinn is the most idiotic character I have ever seen. How many times did Ki Kanos warn her that they were not allies? Not enough I guess. Still one of the best.

Crimson Empire war ursprünglich ein sehr gewagtes Experiment, das schlussendlich aber Kultstatus erreicht hat. Der Kern des Exmperimentes war es eine Randerscheinung aus dem Star Wars-Universum weiter auszubauen, wie es häufig in der FanFiction vorkommt, wo Fans ihre eigenen Geschichten schreiben. Die Hauptrolle in Crimson Empire spielt deshalb ein Mitglied der roten Garde, der imperiale Elitetruppe die den Imperator seit Angriff der Klonkrieger beschützen durfte.
Erstmals erfährt man mehr über ihre Ausbildung auf dem abgeschotteten Planeten Yinchorr, wo sie gegen Ende ihres langen Trainings gezwungen sind ihren Trainingspartner mit dem sie sich so nahe wie Brüder stehen aus Loyalität gegenüber dem Imperator zu töten. Doch ihre Loyalität zum Imperator, die auch weit über dessen Tod hinaus reichte führte auch zu ihrem tragischen Schicksal, als sie von einem der ihren, der sich selbst zum Nachfolger Palpatines erklärt hat verraten und beinahe ausgelöscht wurden. Doch einer von ihnen konnte überleben und kämpft jetzt jenseits der klaren Fronten, loyal nur dem verstorbenen Imperator gegenüber. Kir Kanos ist der fleischgewordene letzte Wille des Imperators, der all jene töten soll die für die Manipulation seiner Klone verantwortlich sind. Der machtsensitive Gardist Carnor Jax hatte den Leibarzt Palpatines bestochen und so den Zerfall seiner Klonkörper drastisch beschleunigt. Mittlerweile hat Jax der Größenwahn erfasst und er plant seine Machtbegabung derart auszubauen dass er eines Tages so mächtig wie Vader oder Palpatine selbst zu werden. Crimson Empire ist ein gelungenes Werk. Die Audiofassung ist dem Comic in nichts nachständig. Sie vermittelt durch klar verständliche Dialoge und sehr gute Audioeffekte eine Star Wars Atmosphäre der Extraklasse. Für Hörer die nicht alles verstehen empfielt sich der Kauf des Comics zusätlich zum Hörbuch.

Ever since the imperial guards had their short cameo appearance in Return of the Jedi, they have facinated the star wars community. And here now comes the story of their most loyal fighter. The audio version of the comic outstrips the graphic novel by a considerate length. Sound animations are great, making the scene lively. The actors do a wonderfull job, bringing star wars directly into your room. For anyone who loves star wars and dislikes reading graphic novels this is the most perfect way of enjoying this great story. Too bad that crimson empire 2 isn't available in the same way.

It is great to see a story focused around the most enigmatic and intriguing characters in the Star Wars saga. Ever since they hit the big screen with their 5 minutes of fame, I have been caught up in thier mystique. The writers did an excellent job as well, thusly deserving a 5 of 5.

This graphic novel has shown us a side of Star Wras rarely seen before: one where it's do or die in the Empire. The story, characters, coloring, all of it.. was fantastic! I especially like the flashbacks and how the Onderon Battle was depicted with a (gasp) blue sky!!!! Excellent story, and an ending that raises questions sure to be answered! Plus, the Rogues and the Rebel involvement was a crucial part we couldn't do without. This is for all Star Wars fans, or anyone who loves comics!
