Kurzbeschreibung

Some say the line between good and evil is narrower than we imagine -- a divide as subtle as a mirror, and perhaps just as deep. To peer into its black, reflective glass is to know the dark potential we each possess, and we cross that obsidian boundary at our peril . . . into a world where we no longer recognize who we are or what we believed ourselves capable of.

In the late twenty-fourth century, decades after the fall of the once-mighty Terran Empire, the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance dominates the worlds that, in another reality, made up the United Federation of Planets. Humanity and its former subject races are now bound together by their shared oppression, slaves to their cruel and brutal conquerors. But a downtrodden few have found the courage and the strength of will to act. Inspired by visitors from another continuum to fight for their freedom, they have rekindled hope . . . and rediscovered an ancient truth: that every revolution begins with a vision.

Star Trek: VOYAGER ® A rebel ship commanded by a former slave named Chakotay attempts to evade pursuit in the Badlands . . . only to encounter a strange ship that was catapulted seventy thousand light-years across the galaxy. On board the craft are two aliens, one of whom has the potential to completely alter the balance of power within the Alliance. But as both sides of the struggle race to get to the stranger first, treachery throws all schemes into a tailspin.

Star Trek: NEW FRONTIER ® Following the Terran Empire's collapse, its longtime rival, the Romulan Star Empire, has absorbed many of the fringe civilizations spread across that part of the galaxy. One of the Romulans' slaves is M'k'nzy of Calhoun, a savage and unpredictable Xenexian who dreams of death . . . and who learns the value of freedom from the unlikeliest of teachers, a Romulan named Soleta.

Star Trek: DEEP SPACE NINE ® One fallen dictator's struggle to regain her power and her position leads to the discovery of a bold rebel plan for a decisive military strike against the Alliance. But while Kira Nerys navigates the dangerous road of politics, sex, and military intrigue that she believes will lead her back to reclaiming the Intendancy, cracks form in the rebel leadership, leading to a showdown that will change the course of the Mirror Universe.

Synopsis

A radically different take on STAR TREK is revealed in this collection of novels that focus on the struggle of a freedom-hungry rebellion against an oppressive alien regime. VOYAGER: In a reversal of events from VOYAGER's first episode, two lost travelers from the other side of the galaxy are flung into the middle of the Alliance, the alien empire that oppresses humans, Vulcans, and countless other races. One of these travelers has the potential to completely alter the balance of power, and as both sides struggle to get to the stranger first, treachery throws everything into a tailspin. NEW FRONTIER: Almost a century after the fall of the Terran Empire, its long-time rivals, the Romulans, have absorbed many of the fringe civilizations spread across that part of the galaxy. One of its slaves, M'k'nzy of Calhoun - who in this universe will never become Captain MacKenzie Calhoun of the Starship EXCALIBUR - learns courage and the value of freedom from an unlikely teacher, a Romulan named Soleta.D

EEP SPACE NINE: One fallen dictator's struggle to regain her power and her position leads to the discovery of a bold rebel plan for a decisive military strike that will bring down the Alliance, once and for all. But while Kira Nerys navigates the tangle of politics, sex, and military intrigue that she believes will allow her reclaim her station, cracks form in the rebel leadership, leading to a showdown that will change the course of the Mirror Universe.

5.0 von 5 Sternen ST im dunklen Spiegel - einfach Klasse 7. August 2007
Von Amazon Kundenrezensionen TOP 1000 REZENSENT
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
Dies ist eine Sammlung von drei weiteren aufeinander bezogenen Novellen. In...

THE MIRROR-SCALED SERPENT

4. Mai 2007
Von TJAMES03 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I love this book. It is GREAT sequel (I have always wanted to see the mirror universe Kes). A lot of people are under the false impression that all of the characters in the mirror universe have to be complete opposites of those in our `normal' Trek universe. Wrong. That would be too simple. Some are completely different, and others are only minutely (example: in the mirror universe chapters of "Glass Empires", the Borg are still what they are in our universe, but there are a few differences - Borg King, diamond-shaped ship instead of a cube).

I know that there is going to be confusion for some because of Peter David's "New Frontier" chapters, but if you are confused, go out and read the previous books of "NF". They are some of the best ever Trek-themed novels.

As far as this timeline not following the "Dark passions" reality, no problem. As the TNG episode "Parallels" showed us, there are infinite realties out there. It is up to the reader to decide what they consider `canon' in their reality.

Another thing that I liked about the books is the fact that (even the sadistic characters) have a reason for doing what they do (like with the traitor in the VOYAGER chapters - when you read why they did it, it almost makes you agree with them!).

Also, the mirror universe, some counterparts are much more interesting than those in the regular Trek universe (example being that of the mirror universe Leeta. In the mirror universe, Leeta is not just a dumb Dabo girl, but a fighter and a very intelligent person).

I really hope that we will see a sequel to these great books!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Enjoyable, Well-Conceived "Star Trek" Fiction 21. Juli 2008
Von John Kwok - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Just for fun I borrowed this book recently from my local public library, and found a rather delightful surprise with respect to "Star Trek" fiction. While readers will not be surprised with the talents of Keith R. A. DeCandido, and especially, Peter David (whose alternative Romulan Star Empire tale worked well on several different levels), they will be amazed with the ample detail and convincing depictions wrought by first-time author Sarah Shaw in her brilliant visit to the alternate "Deep Space Nine" commanded by Terran Rebellion leader General Miles "Smiley" O'Brien. All three authors do a fine job in depicting the Mirror Universe as seen from the prisms of "Star Trek: Voyager" (DeCandido), "Star Trek: New Frontier" (David) and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (Shaw). While I'm not going to spoil the fun by revealing plot details to you, I will say that there is ample shipboard intrigue and excitement in store in all three novellas. Moreover, I would say that these are among the finer examples of "Star Trek" short fiction which I've come across. Long-time fans of "Star Trek" will not be disappointed, and most certainly will want to add this volume to their collections.

5.0 von 5 Sternen FANTASTIC 16. Mai 2007

This was better than the first in the Mirror Series.

Partially because I love the DS9 and New Frontiers Characters but doubly so as I do not care for the Voyager crew and loved that story as well!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Alternate Universe Titles are Much Better! 20. Juni 2012
Von Picardfan007 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This is volume two of the mirror universe anthology. The action doesn't let up. In this one we get a fantastic Voyager story by R.A. DeCandido, a New Frontier story by Peter David and a DS9 story by Sarah Shaw. If only the regular universe stories were this dramatic! The action runs at a break neck clip in all the stories. Love, betrayal and high drama are rare in many of the Trek books. Other reviewers can give you plot descriptions. All I have to say is that this one is worth it's price. You won't be let down by all the twists and turns in this three short novel collection!

If you are a fan of the mirror universe; this book will entertain you. 3 new stories set in and containing characters from Voyager, Deep Space Nine and New Frontier. Deep down these are still the characters you know and love, but how the mirror universe has changed them might supsrise you. IF you are a ST fan, do pick up this book.
