Don't Miss This One 1. August 2011
Von Josh Hagy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I've always thought that Star Trek VI was one of, if not the best, of all the Star Trek movies. Swallow's "Cast No Shadow" is an intriguing look at what comes roughly 7 years after the Khitomer Accords are signed and even some of what took place to lead Valeris toward betraying the Federation and conspiring to assassinate the Klingon Chancellor.

The novel is well written, well thought out and well executed. For those fans of the DS9 relaunch, we get to see Elias Vaughan begin to come into his own. For the fans of The Original Series, we get a deeper look into the Klingon-Federation conflict and some of the back story that drove Star Trek VI. We also get to see Captain Sulu and the crew of the Excelsior in action again, though that role was woefully underused (to no detriment of the story. I just want to see more of Sulu and the Excelsior).

In short, this novel is well worth both your time and your coin. Don't miss it.

I was tricked, but I still liked it 12. Juni 2012
Von derrick - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
See Spock on the cover, very big and prominent? Everyone loves Spock, so why not get this book? Obviously, he is a big part of the story if his image is so large on that gorgeous cover, right?
Wrong. Boy, was I fooled. Out of 300 pages, Spock is in maybe 30 of them, and half of those pages are in flashbacks. Valeris is the big star here. We are quickly reminded about what she did in the film "Star Trek IV" and then we slowly learn about her motivations as the story progresses. We get inside her head and learn about her fears and wishes, her experiences that led her to be a traitor, and whether or not she regrets that. We see how she interacts with those who do not trust her and never will. It's a good story, everything played out great, nothing rushed, and the ending is satisfying. There is no forced happy ending, no reconciliation, it's just realistic. It's good. But there is no Spock, not really. That was disappointing. There is Sulu for a good chunk of time, and that is cool. But still, I take off one star for being tricked.

Great Story 7. November 2011
Von Steve Mandel - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
The author told a great story about the period of time following the Khitomer Accords. It was fast paced and well written. I was at first sceptical about the book as several of the recent Star Trek books have been disappointing. This book was not. It kept my interest up and was strong enough to stand on it's own using new or different characters from the Star Trek universe only having to rely on cameos from some of the well known personalities. I highly recommend this book .

Filling in a gap. 3. September 2011
Von J. Frahm - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I picked this book up on a whim, generally preferring to read books that took the Star Trek mythos forward in the timeline (post TNG and DS9). However, this tale mixes beloved characters portrayed in ST:TOS movies with newer characters featured in later novels further tying two generations together. A very enjoyable read that fills in some of the gap between the last TOS film and the beginning of the TNG/DS9 era.

A very, very good read 21. Oktober 2011
Von Steve - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
This book is an outstanding read, and amongst one of the best books written in this genre. It is a book for the thinker who likes an intelligent plot that methodically unravels as the characters take on their various personas. Very clever writing, it is a read that is hard to put down, and I was left with a feeling of disappointment as I read that last page, not because of the story, but rather there was no more to read !!!! I really hope there will be a follow up as I believe there is so much more in each of the characters that has yet to be revealed.
