Bringraj (Eclipta alba) is traditionally used to keep long black hair and calm mind by applying oil cooked with it. In Ayurvedic science, Bringraj cools the head and calms the mind, and is suitable for Pitta types. It helps the body to maintain its heat. It is responsible for metabolism in the organ and tissue systems and in cellular level. Bringraj has anti-infl ammatory, anti-hypertensive, antihepatotoxic, properties.
Bringraj is used in Ayurveda to help in liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, or enlargement of the liver and spleen. It is also useful for anemia and skin disorders, mental disorders, headaches, and insomnia. The juice of the plant is used to treat catarrhal jaundice. It is thought that Bringraj has restorative properties that can help assist in the treatment of premature graying of the hair, balding, and alopecia (loss of hair) when taken internally and used topically on the scalp. Bringraj works as a general antiseptic and astringent oral mouthwash for infected gums and loose teeth. It helps maintain and rejuvenate teeth, bones, sight, hearing, and memory. Externally, Bringraj can be used on minor cuts, abrasions, and burns.
