Dan Slott is an American comic book writer best known for The Amazing Spider-Man, Mighty Avengers, Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and She-Hulk. He is the current writer of the twice monthly The Amazing Spider-Man. Dan lives in New York City.

Imagine you live in the New York City of the standard, or 616, Marvel Universe. Almost every day, heroes and villains fight each other, and one of the top heroes in town is Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man. But civilians like you and I usually don't get involved in the action (apart from being threatened by the villains and/or saved by the heroes). Now imagine that almost everyone in New York City is getting spider powers like Peter. Most people use these powers for their own fun and profit, while others learn that with great power... (you know the rest). And this is only stage 1 of the infestation.
An action- and fun-packed comic event you won't want to miss. For me, it was easily the Marvel event, no, even the comics event of the year 2011 (better than Fear Itself or even the mini-event X-Men Schism). Make sure to grab some of the tie-ins as well when they become available as trade paperbacks. I particularly enjoyed Cloak & Dagger, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, and The Amazing Spider-Girl.
An action- and fun-packed comic event you won't want to miss. The best Spider-Man Story in Ages!!!

This is the story that Dan Slott's run was building to since he took over Amazing Spider-Man as the sole writer. Dan has managed to make Peter the kind of character that we love while still putting him through an emotional ringer. The Jackal, one of Peter's most fearsome villains has returned with a new, and even more incidious plot. Bestowing spider-powers upon the helpless citizens of New York, everyone at first loves their new powers, until phase two begins.
Peter meanwhile must learn to live life as just one of a million Spider-people. However when the true mastermind behind the Jackal shows themselves, the true horror begins.
I can not stress how cool this story is. We have all manner of spider-characters (both famous and infamous). Peter has another life changing event occur (for the better imho) and wait till you see who swings in to save the day!
I highly recommend this oversized hard cover.

A Fun Spidey Story

I love Spider-Man. But I got turned off by One More Day and Brand New Day storylines from a few years ago. (Mephisto stole Peter and MJ's marriage and made everyone forget he was Spidey? What a cop out. It was just their way of saying, "Oops, I guess we shouldn't have had him expose his identity in 'Civil War' after all!")
Then I saw Humberto Ramos was returning to Amazing Spider-Man for "Big Time". I bought that graphic novel and the following books--which led me to Spider Island. Not all the stories are illustrated by Ramos, but the other artists aren't bad. (Though I wished he illustrated every issue.) Dan Slott is an excellent Spider-Man writer. He is making the title fun again.
Flash Thompson as the new Vewnom is also given a storyline here--I love the new take on Venom.
There are plenty of cameos by other characters, but this is Spidey's story. As New Yorkers gain his abilities, it gives him (and New Yorkers) a new perspective on the wall crawler.
If you like Spidey, you'll love this book.

Putting the Fun back in Spiderman

Dan Slott has had one of the best runs on Spidey in decades in my opinion. From "Big Time" on I have thoughouly enjoyed this run. It feels natural for the character. The whole Horizon Labs thing was briliant and this storyline is just another notch in the belt. With great power comes...no responsiblity! All of Manhattan has been granted Spidey's powers and most of them don't know what to do with themselves. The original web-slinger has to rally the troops (in this case the Avengers and FF) to help keep the city undercontrol while he tries to figure out how to stop it. This was a great and fun culmination to some of the more serious stories in the last few trades. This was just a rollicking good time, and a needed break as this is gearing up for the penultimate "Ends of the Earth" storyline that has Spidey facing a revamped and very dangerous Sinister Six.
