Recycling used tires 20. Dezember 2010
Von Bücherkeule TOP 1000 REZENSENT
Format:Taschenbuch|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
Ross Bentley has written one of the best introductions to the craft of driving a racing car. His first book Speed Secrets: Professional Race Driving Techniques is almost a must-read for anybody who has interest in driving a car at the limit (whether these are real cars or virtual cars in computer games). But Ross Bentley did not stop after his first book. If his first book was mainly about the manifest ways of handling a car, his second book Inner Speed Secrets: Mental Strategies to Maximize Your Racing Performance: Race Driving Skills, Techniques and Strategies is about the kind of attitude that is behind becoming a successful racing driver. It looks at the (sometimes rather trivially presented folk) psychology that promises to program you to be a better driver.

The present book recycles and marginally extends the material of the first two books. Its recaps the mental programming techniques, and then again looks at turning corners. There is little new material here for those who have read the first two books diligently, but the material is so condensed and selectively presented that nobody without some prior knowledge (from either the precursor books or from elsewhere) will gain much from reading this book. Not that there is much to be gained. The speed secrets this time boil down to such deep remarks as "Have fun!" (#5) or "Practice - everyday - being aware" (#14). The final chapter of the book presents case studies in which Ross Bentley describes how he has coached various types of drivers. These studies, though, are little else than a rephrasing of what has been said before, so they are rather redundant.

Judging from the present book, there is not so much more to say about driving at the limit than what has been said in Ross Bentleys first two books (about technique and attitude). Probably, you are better off spending time and money on the racing track rather than on this book. If, however, you feel that you must profit from the little that is new in this book, do. It is worth skimming through, and the self-coaching questions in appendix B are indeed a useful check for your next training session.

Needs to be combined with the others he's written 29. Oktober 2004
Von D. Grant - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
There's a lot of good info in this book, lots of stuff to provoke thought, and it is presented in a very simple and easy to understand format that communicates the points well - like a military training manual (but with a little more humour)

Unfortunately, it tends to rehash subjects discussed in Speed Secrets and Inner Speed Secrets, which means that the amount of new material (for owners of the other two) is roughly half of what is already a pretty thin book.

Between the three books, there is one outstanding book in there. If Mr Bentley writes another installment (as he threatens to do in this book) I hope he compliles all his books into one big one, adds a couple of new chapters to cover whatever new material he wants to add, and then edits it into a coherent whole.

The best yet! 17. Juli 2003
Von bob - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I've been a big fan of Ross Bentley's writings since I first read Speed Secrets. Inner Speed Secrets, while more challenging, made a big difference to my racing. Now, Speed Secrts 2 may be his best book yet. It's certainly the most in-depth and detailed book I've read on the subject - and I've read a lot. It's a perfect combination of Bentley's mental and physical approach to racing. While I'm not planning on making a career driving race cars, I now know exactly what it takes to do so. The chapter on the "complete driver" is fasinating, and like he says, it's almost a "job description" for a modern-day professional driver. If I was planning on making a career driving race cars, this is where I'd start. And the last chapter is the best - I must have read and re-read it 20 times now. This is the best driving book written.

More great Ross Bentley coaching! 2. April 2003
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
If you liked Speed Secrets or Inner Speed Secrets, the author's two earlier books with similar titles, you'll enjoy this one too. This takes off where those two books left off and adds a lot more advanced stuff. I've definitely seen the benefits, in terms of both confidence on the track and in my lap times, from applying the techniques in all three of these books. Bentley obviously has spent a lot of time thinking about how to drive a race car, but he's able to convey his insights in a very clear fashion that's easy to understand and fun to read.
