For fans of Stephen King, Joe Hill, and James Herbert. A paranormal conference at the most haunted hotel in the Blue Ridge Mountains goes haywire when ghost hunters accidentally stir up demons.

When Digger Wilson brings his paranormal team Spirit Seekers International to the White Horse Inn, he is skeptical that his dead wife will keep her half of the bargain. He doesn’t believe in ghosts, and just before she died, she promised to meet him there.

But when one of the conference guests channels a mysterious presence and an Ouija board spells out a pet phrase known only to Digger and his wife, his convictions are challenged.

And when guests start to disappear, Digger and his daughter Kendra must face the circle of demons that view the hotel as their personal playground. Because soon the inn will be closing for good, angels can’t be trusted, and demons don’t like to play alone . . .

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Fast, Suspenseful Story with Ghosts and Demons. Very well written and Funny 2. August 2010

This is the second Scott Nicholson novel I've read. If you ask me, Scott's got a great way with words. His voice is hilarious and perpetually creative. What's nice about this is that no matter what story he's telling, I can enjoy it for the writing itself.

This one is kind of a ghost/horror story, but because the cast of characters was so wonderfully quirky, I found it to be at least as humorous as it was scary--and I think that's a good thing. It was fast-paced and fun, and the suspense kept me glued to the pages. I found it to be a great read and I recommend it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen This is a fun ghost story! 25. August 2010

I just finished "Speed Dating for the Dead" and had a great time. The story centers on a paranormal conference in an old hotel in the Appalachians.

There were lots of great, unique characters, and every angle of ghost hunting was explored--the techies with all their ghost-hunting equipment; the physicist determined to show that the conference is a hoax; the questionable psychics who provide entertainment.

There's also the showmanship of Digger Wilson, who organizes such conferences in haunted hotels (and sometimes "haunted" hotels) around the country. His teenage daughter is just sick of being dragged from one creepy hotel to another.

Best of all: the conference guests, all of them trying out-psychic, out-"I-saw-a-ghost!" each other.

There were some good scary scenes, too, especially in the basement and attic.

In a weird way, this reminded me of the movie "Clue," in that Clue was like a classic locked-room mystery, but of course the filmmakers knew all the established cliches and tropes and would twist and have fun with them. Speed Dating with the Dead is like that--on one level a classic ghost story, on another level a fresh and unique variation on what you expect from such a story.

I really enjoyed it and would recommend it!

I liked the setting for this story. The old hotel reminded me of an old hotel that we live by that gives ghost tours. Except the hotel I live by is well kept up and beautiful. This book could have been really good if it would have stayed a ghost story. But instead it ends up that it is mostly demons that the story is about. So you get the gory, blobs, smelly, etc. that goes along with stories like this. Kind of boring, and not very scary. The first half of the book is good, then it goes downhill. I skimmed through most of it untill I got to the end. I am getting ready to read another book by Scott Nicholson, if this one doesnt come through, I am done with him.

Wow! I <3 Scott Nicholson. Here I go thinking that I am going to read a "normal" ghost story, forgetting that when you are reading a Scott Nicholson book there is no normal to gauge against. I hadn't read the description before I started. I just jumped right on in.

I actually got up as I was reading to come out and get a glass of water and kind of did a little dance as I was reading and walking past my husband. Scary scary! What's scary scary? my husband asked. This book is scary scary. I say it in all of my reviews, and I'll say it again, in my opinion Scott is up there with the greats, King, Koontz, Cook. He scares that pants off of me and I LOVE it!

This book is based at a paranormal conference in the Appalachian Mountains at a hotel that sells itself on being haunted. Funny how the manager of the hotel works to give this illusion, when in reality this place is loaded with things you don't want to bump into ever. Digger had made a promise to his wife both on their honeymoon and on her death bed that he would meet her back at the White Horse. Here he is, will she be there? And if she is there, will she be good? or evil?

No spoilers here people. Read the book!

Like his other books, Scott brings in so many interesting characters that play an integral role in the book, Kendra - Digger and Beth's daughter, Cody, Roach, different members of the conference, some who are full on believers, others who are skeptics to the highest degree.

On my definitely recommended to read list! If you are like me and love the paranormal, love ghosts, spirits, all of that, or if you like horror books, or if you just want something different to read, this is an excellent book to grab!
