Information on WWII Soviet aircraft types is scarce in the West, and despite the relative expense I bought both volumes in hopes of plugging that hole.
SOVIET COMBAT AIRCRAFT more than met that expectation. I have never seen a better aviation book. There are impressive photographs to cover comprehensive and detailed text, backed by research of extraordinary quality.
Even obscure types are covered, such as the amazing Nikitin IS-1, a biplane that converted into a monoplane after takeoff.
The only complaint I might have is that although there are many lovely three-view line drawings, color technical paintings are meager. However, this is like saying I got cake and ice cream but they didn't put sprinkles on top.
