Kurzbeschreibung

Romantic Times calls Laura Florand's writing "sensuous and sumptuous", awarding her their Seal of Excellence, and NPR says it's "explosive, sensual . . . and utterly sweet".

Now the internationally bestselling author of The Chocolate Thief takes us to a snow-kissed Christmas cabin for this heart-wrenching tale of love, loss, forgiveness—and hope.

Voted the Biggest Tearjerker of the Year in the annual AAR reader poll (you were warned). Named one of the best books of 2013 by Dear Author and Romance Novels for Feminists. DABWAHA nominee (Dear Author Bitchery Writing Award for Hellagood Authors).

Once they had been the happiest couple in the world. Once serious, restrained Kurt had fallen hard for a laughing, easy-going woman who filled their lives with joy.

But when loss struck them, Kai went down under the avalanche of grief. She threw their marriage away, and she left him, fleeing the world for this cabin high in the mountains.

Now, as the two find themselves snowbound over Christmas, Kurt has to convince his wife that while she may have lost everything else, she never lost him. Now he has to show her the true strength of one man’s love.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Amazing depth of characters & swirling emotions 2. September 2013
Von Dorothy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
First - if you read and enjoyed (3 star or higher) "Turning Up the Heat" then you need to read this book. Don't read the synopsis, just read it.

For all others, this book has emotional maturity that is not normally found in the romance genre. Most stories have a little bit of turmoil, but the main characters work through it and live happily ever after. With Snow-Kissed (and last year with Turning up the Heat), Ms. Florand explores the "after" and what happens to a marriage when crisis enters it.

As Kurt points out to Kai, he married her "for better or worse." The worse came and tore Kai apart. The communication between them was broken. This story has a higher level of intimacy and maturity than "Turning Up the Heat." I don't know if it is the characters or Ms. Florand's development as an author. Either way, I liked it better than the earlier one. Where a reader might have felt that "Turning Up the Heat" had a whiny heroine, I believe most readers would empathize with Kai.

This kind of novella could be therapeutic for couples suffering from similar circumstances. Perhaps Amazon needs to create a new sub-genre of "Self-Help Contemporary Romance."

Great novella. I would love to have a glimpse of the characters again in a future story. *hint hint*

disclaimer: I was provided an advanced free copy of the novella in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Undoubtedly One of the Most Beautiful Stories I've Ever Read... 21. April 2014
Von Andrea Thompson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
If anyone should ask me why Laura Florand is one of my very, very favorite authors, I won't need to say a word. I will let Snow-Kissed speak for me. It is undoubtedly one of the very best, most moving stories I've had the privilege to read.

Snow-Kissed is a marriage-in crisis story, except... this is a marriage not so much in crisis as it is shattered. Kai and Kurt were so, so happy, before they experienced the profound loss of a dream. The aftermath of the losses is unbearable for Kai and in a turmoil of grief, rage and shame, she leaves her husband. More than a year later, Kai is beginning to thaw. She still tolerates her grief moment-by-moment, but is slowly learning to breathe through the pain. She is also beginning to realize she virtually destroyed the love she and Kurt shared. Kai knows they must both move on alone. The future they can move to separately cannot possibly be worse than what they'd face if they look back...can it? And besides, how could Kurt possibly forgive her for the angry words, the leaving?

Snow-Kissed is a very delicate story, covering past joy and grief of a happy marriage, the pain and hesitation of facing all that's been lost, and the fragile moments of fear and the tentative hope of a future. Through Florand's narrative, giving us both Kai and Kurt's heartbreaking points-of-view, this story gripped my heart. Many passages made had my heart aching. In the moments in which Kai and Kurt shared memories of happy times, I smiled. Believe it or not (given everything I've said) Snow-Kissed had passionate moments that left me a bit breathless. I was so completely in every moment.

With its premise, Snow-Kissed is a very difficult story to read. and in many cases that would serve for a difficult read. With Florand's prose, though, it is easy...because it is so beautiful. This is one hundred, twenty pages of story that is packed with more emotion than many novels three times its length. Snow-Kissed intrigued me, broke me wide-open, and in the end, left me with a smile and the memory of a difficult yet gorgeous journey.

Favorite Quotes

Their eyes held. His were so gorgeous, their beauty all for her... and yet she had always known, right from the first moment he stood looking down at her in his mother's gardens and she looked back up into those hazel eyes, and her heart caught.
Her heart had been so smart. Suicidal in its bright optimism, clueless as to what would come, but still--so smart, to so immediately respond to him.

"You're the most beautiful thing that ever happened in my life," Kai whispered suddenly, clutching at him as if he might melt out of her arms. His arm tightened under her bottom, driving himself deep, deep. "I don't know what I did to deserve you."

5.0 von 5 Sternen Beautiful Story! 1. September 2013
Von Pat Fordyce - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This novella will grab your heart on page one, and never let go. There is so much emotion weaving it's way through the story, I couldn't put it down.

Kai and Kurt Winters had a perfect marriage filled with love and laughter, honesty and sharing. They knew they would be in love forever. They are tested in a heartbreaking series of events, that breaks Kai. The only thing she knows to do is turn away. Her decision breaks Kurt.

The love in this story is almost palpable, the emotions wrenching, but there is no one who can be blamed, or who is at fault. The meeting in a little cabin in the woods arranged by Anne Winters , Kurt's Mom, is her way of trying to help them find their way back to each other, or move on. The setting is magical it's Christmas, and their isolated by a snow storm. Finally the words of pain, loss, and emptiness are said .

I can't convey how much this novel moved me. Ms. Florand's ability to make you feel every high and low of this story is amazing. It will make you cry, sigh, and hope with all your heart that their love will save them.

Keep your tissues handy!

I received this novella from the author for an honest review.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Finding Love During a Winter Storm 1. September 2013
Von Elaine - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The pleasures of love come with work, just as the beauty of snow requires work to make a pathway through it.

Kai and Kurt lived the perfect picture of happiness until unexpected pain caused each one to unintentionally hurt the other. Kai tried to escape the storm of emotions she got caught in so she ran away to a cabin in the mountains. When a snowstorm strands Kai with Kurt, they finally face the elements that led to their cold stand off and work their way back to each other.

Laura Florand's writing draws out the raw emotions of grief while tempering it with the warmth of love with lines like, "If anything, the rage had been a protective shield against the fullness of that hurt." Reading her story is like wearing a warm coat of caring as you brave the cold of life's unplanned pain with her characters.

My favorite line from the story is "Forgiveness hurts." As much as forgiveness hurts, it also offers healing and hope, the best Christmas presents Kai and Kurt could offer each other.

I did not finish it. It was moving too slowly to keep my attention. Maybe it would have gotten better, but there are so many other books to read.
