Luther Krank sees his daughter's Christmas absence as an opportunity. Drawing the lively picture of crazy American Christmas season, he brilliantly caricatures the traditional Christmas habits of western civilization, by telling the story of Mrs and Mr Krank, who desperately try to avoid all traditions for only one year. Get the book and find out if they will succeed! A great read! Especially after an excruciating day of hunting for Christmas gifts...
when the preparations for christmas are stressing you, when you are fed up and about to quit, just take a break and read this book and you will recognize how relaxed your christmas is!
Bücher mehrmals gelesen. Nachdem mir 'A Painted House' als
erstes Buch dann nicht mehr so sehr gefallen hat, dachte ich schon:
Naja irgendwann wird man doch müde bei ein und demselben
Autor. Doch 'Skipping Christmas' ist eine Sensation. Man kann
das Buch einfach nicht beiseite legen und kugelt sich alle paar Minuten
vor Lachen. Wer hätte das gedacht, dass ein Buch so wahnsinnig
komisch und dennoch sehr tiefsinnig sein kann. Die Charaktere
sind spitze, vorallem natürlich Luther und Nora. Aber auch
Vic Frohmeyer der Organisator der ganzen Nachbarschaft. Die
dramatische Wendung am Schluss ist unerwartet und spektakulär
zugleich. Und wieder können einem die Tränen kommen, aber nicht
vor Lachen sondern vor tiefer Rührung und Anteilsnahme. Ich
glaube wir alle haben ab und zu die Sehnsucht nach einem ganz
anderen Weihnachten.
