I'd heard of Veggie Tales from an Aussie friend but had never come across it much here in England. I'd been scouring the internet for a small portable CD player for my little boy (not quite 2yrs) as he loves his music and rather than put a CD player in every room thought one portable would be cheaper. All the CD players I found for children here in the UK were either too old for him or didn't play proper CDs so when I came across the brightly coloured small child friendly Veggie Tales CD player with microphones!!! I was ecstatic. Only trouble was on the UK site it was over £400! Imagine my surprise then when I found I could buy it on the US site, ship to the UK all at a reasonable cost. I paid the cheapest shipping cost so didn't expect it to arrive before Christmas but after just over a week my parcel arrived. From the moment my son saw it he loved it.
It's like any portable CD player, you knock it - it jumps. I was a bit disappointed that one of the microphones packed up quite quickly but then my son did have it in his mouth when he sang and once it had time to dry out it started working again.
He hasn't worked out yet that the CD player is to be carried by a handle not dragged by a microphone but it tests the players durability and for us it passes.

Oh no! I was hoping that this toy had better reviews. My "very musical" twin toddlers just got this from a friend of mine as a gift. Although we've only had it for a few days, the boys have had SO much fun with it that I wanted to review.
This is their first exposure to Veggie Tales and they love the songs. (I do, too. They're very catchy--and haven't gotten on my nerves yet!) I love that there are two mics... so both boys can sing a long w/ the CDs. We've already enjoyed many hours of fun (& lots of laughter) w/ this toy.
If things change over time and the toy doesn't prove to be durable, I'll update this review. But so far, so good! =)

I was so excited when my mom told me she had purchased this for my 3 year old son for Christmas. He LOVES my brother's ancient Fisher Price carry along cassette player with microphone so I thought it'd be nice for him to play his CDs. I had looked previously and every CD/MP3 player with microphone(s) was SO expensive! Shockingly when you know they're not as high quality as a regular "boombox" but are double or triple the price. Well, my mom got this on sale and we were thrilled. We saw no reviews of it first, but I had read reviews of every other "competitive" product and they all had consistently mixed ratings (love it or totally doesn't work).
So Christmas came and my son gets his CD player and a brand new Little People CD. We put in batteries, turn it on, the CD starts....and it stops. We try again, it starts...and it stops. It won't play through the entire first song, and it won't skip to any subsequent songs. We tried two other CDs before deciding the CD player was definitely the problem. My brother is a computer technician and said it was the laser reader (? right?) and that he couldn't fix it. Luckily, the store let us exchange it even though my mom bought it in October (And it was now after Christmas). The second one plays entire CDs! It is very sensitive, so if you bump it the CD will quit playing for a second but I kind of expected that from a child's toy. One microphone seems to work better than another but that may be because my son basically licks them while he's talking. :/
I rater it 3 because the first was a 0 but the last was at least a 4, maybe even a 5 due to the price. Based on the other two reviews it looks as though ordering this is going to be a gamble on whether you get a working unit or not.
