Im ersten Teil des Buches werden alle Modelle und deren Variationen, sowie Accessoires (Schals, Haargummis und Taschentücher aus Stoffresten) in Bildern vorgestellt auch finden sich hier Vorschläge für dazu passende Accessoires oder Kombimöglichkeiten. Dann folgt ein kurzer Teil über die Nähausrüstung und einige grundlegende Tipps. Und schließlich eine sehr leicht verständliche, ausführliche Anleitung für jedes Modell und jede Variation mit Skizzen, den einzelnen Arbeitsschritten ( nummeriert) und zusätzlichen Detailanleitungen z.B. wie man ein Schrägband herstellt, wie man den Stoff rafft usw. Hinten im Buch befindet sich ein Umschlag mit allen Schnittmusterbögen.
Ich habe nach diesem Buch meine ersten selbstgenähten Klamotten hergestellt und es war einfach, schnell und vor allem sieht es nicht selbstgenäht aus. Auch wenn ich die englischen Begriffe nicht alle verstanden habe, habe ich aufgrund der Skizzen immer genau gewusst, was gemeint war ( im Deutschen wüsste ich die Fachbegriffe wohl genausowenig) und bin gut zurecht gekommen.
Aufgrund meiner Körpergröße musste ich mir die Schnitte verlängern, aber auch das ist im Buch erklärt. Meiner Meinung nach ein absolut empfehlenswertes Buch, über das ich mich genauso sehr freue, wie über meine neuen selbstgemachten Leinenhosen!

Great book. Clear instructions. Sensible, timeless designs - exactly what is so badly needed when it comes to contemporary sewing books - however: The patterns only go up to size L - which ends up being something like US 3-4 [teenager] size or a pettite. Short and no room for breasts. If they only took the time to make the pattern in some more realistic sizes I would have given this book 5+ stars.

Comfortable clothes, easy to fit, easy to sew.

While I often love to wear ruffles, lace and all things frue-frue, I also like comfortable, simple garments that go with many other pieces and are simple to sew.
This book has 8 basic patterns in sizes XS, S, M, L for the following garments:
1. Wraparound dress, also instructions for 2 tops.
2. Raglan sleeve top, also tunic and jacket
3. Jumper, also 2 dresses
4. 3 pant styles
5. 3 skirt styles
6. 3 more skirts
7. 3 blouses
8. 2 shirts and a tunic
The book layout is very pretty, as are the photographs. Every garment is shown, the instructions and diagrams are clear. Directions are basic enough for beginning seamstresses, along with suggestions for fabrics and accessories.
No special fitting worries with these clothes, all are comfy and roomy. Lots of forgiveness here. There are no intricate curved seams, insets, linings, complicated closures...nothing that might scare you off if you are a sewing newcomer.
I think you get a lot for the money. It's well written and beautifully presented. Other than perhaps the pantaloon pants, all the garments could become everyday favorites. What the heck... The pantaloon pants are really cute too.

I received this book at 10:30am this morning. That was a fast delivery! Although I wasn't aware of Shufu To Seikatsu Sha's work I was intriqued by the cover image before the book was printed. The images and instructions are better than I anticipated. I've been sewing for nearly 50 years so there wasn't any fear that I wouldn't be able to handle whatever was thrown at me. What's nice is that these simple patterns and clear instructions will give any beginner to novice a pleasant learning experience with a firm foothold of the processes involved. The patterns aren't fussy and are easy to transfer to a tracing paper (I know because I have already started!). I see now that I am going to easily have 5 new outfits when we go to visit my inlaws for this Xmas week.
The only thing that I believe would make this book better is if it had been published with a wire spine. Seems like it is taking publishers everywhere a bit to long to anticipate the desires of people such as myself, who love to sew and have several handcrafted projects going on at any given time. So here is a hint for all the publishers in the world: If the book is about an a handcrafted form then it should have a wire spine because we artisans like to lay the book out flat on the table. If you've ever wondered why there are coffee and tea cup rings in old pattern books it is because we set those cups full of liquid on the openned pages in order to break the spine and force them to lay flat.
The only thing that I believe would make this book better is if it had been published with a wire spine.
