My wife and I heard about teaching babies to sign when our son was 9 months old. We immediatly bought this book (and kit), while a friend gave us "Baby Signs" a book by some other authors. We found this book (and the kit as well) confusing, boring and full of ASL signs no child's fingers could possibly make or child's mind discern. The other, simpler, cheaper, more helpful book, "Baby Signs" was a godsend. Using the other book we taught our baby to sign and its amazing. Now 15 months he's speaking much more than his counterparts and still signing away, making up his own signs, asking us questions, and crying with frustration much less than his peers! Teach your baby to sign, its wonderful! (but shop around because this book isn't it!). P. Spence

I purchased the kit when my little girl was 6 months old; after a month of showing her the signs for eat, more, milk and all gone, she not only recognises each sign but has started making them. I am delighted and impressed. The beauty of this book is it's simplicity; the author stresses that you can make your own signs and actively encourages this. We now use our own signs for a variety of words. What the book does is explain the process and how, as a parent or friend, we should go about teaching signs. This is fascinating to me and I haven't even watched the video yet!

Many people will be amazed at how quickly a baby can learn signs and that one so small does understand what they mean. My husband and I only knew a few basic signs to teach our first child. We began with "more", "please", "Thank You", "drink" and "all done". We noticed a more contented child because he knew that he could communicate some basic needs. It really helped eliminate some whining! Now that baby #2 is on the way, we are so happy to have found the Sign With Your Baby book and this quick reference resource. The illustrations are very clear and while there are hundreds of signs in the ASL vocabulary, the author did an excellent job of choosing ones that parents need to know. We highly recommend this type of training for any child.
