Just like he was alive again 3. Mai 2011
Von Wes Hawkins - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
I considered Shifty to be a good friend and a tremendous role model. My one regret was not having more opportunities to ask him about his life. Before I got to the 1st chapter the tears were already rolling. This book brings Shifty back, just as if he was still with us. I learned about what his life was like beyond being a famous war hero. I feel that this is probably the greatest book that has ever been written, not because it's written about a friend of mine, but the method that Mr. Brotherton writes is simply unmatched. You'd think that Mr. Brotherton had known Shifty all his life. By the time I finished the last page, I hada to remind myself that Shifty is gone now. That is how deep this book pulls you in. It's really as if you're sitting in his living room listening to him talk. It was a priveldge to read this book and I have no doubt that I'll read it over and over again as the years go by.

Another Excellent Band of Brothers Biography from Brotherton! 6. Mai 2011
Von Robert Craddock - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
I had always heard that Shifty Powers was one of the most-loved guys in Easy Company, even though he didn't have a huge presence in the HBO miniseries. Now I understand why. Brotherton's written another excellent book in the Band of Brothers series ... it's a great read and is filled with many inspiring stories. Shifty was a great man of excellent character. He will obviously be missed by many, and I'm glad his story has been told!

Great book about a Great Person. 10. Mai 2011
Von JP - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
I have read every book about the Band of Brothers and I picked this book up the day it came out. I was written in first person even though Shifty did not write the book. But Brotherton does a great job making the reader feel like it is Shifty telling us his story.

Definitely a great book about a great person who did not any recognition for what he did in the war.

RIP Shitfy

Shifty's War--- A Must Read 11. Mai 2011
Von Greg - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Even if you don't know anything about WWII or the Band of Brothers this book is a must read. Marcus Brotherton does a tremendous job of pulling different sources together about this crack-shot WWII hero who saved lives with his skills as a hunter and rifleman and makes you feel that the man is sitting there speaking to you.

"Shifty" is a humble man who like other WWII vets says he was just doin his job over there. (Germany). He was raised in a coal-mining town in southwest Virginia whose main goal in life was to be a great shot with a gun. As I read this book I could not help but be moved by this man's humbleness and gentleness even when speaking about his battle experiences. He had great morals, and was just a good old country boy who lived a great life.

I could not think of a better book to read to kids about what America was once like and how people took pride in what they did and put their lives on the line when the Germans and Japanese threatened ours and every ones freedom

Our old friend Shifty 11. Mai 2011
Von Russell Humphrey - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
Millions of people throughout the world have come to love and respect a group of Old Warriors known as "The Band of Brothers" Darrel "Shifty" Powers is one of the most beloved of that prestigous group. Marcus Brotherton is probably the most prolific author of books about these heros. Marcus has out-done himself with "Shifty's War". As you read this book you will have the uncanny feeling of being with Shifty as he relates the events that filled his life, before, during, and after the war. It is a soft and easy read just like the soft and easy demeanor that Shifty possessed. I have admired and respected Shifty for years. After reading this book I have the very comfortable feeling that he was a personal old friend. I think this book deserves an award!!
