First, I strongly recommend to read these stories in the correct order. That would be The Belgariad I to V, The Mallorean I to V, Belgarath and Polgara. You don't have to read The Rivan Codex. That's some background material for the "hardcore" fan.
Then I must admit, I AM a hardcore fan. I read everything Eddings publishes, most of it numerous times. Yes, it's rather light reading, but if you want deep, you should stay with Tolstoi or whatever. I like my Fantasy entertaining and with a happy ending. And if you're into Fantasy, the big Eddings sagas are a must!
The final volume of the ten part saga around Belgarion and his friends is somewaht "business as usual" - though it's a good business! The final confrontation drags on a little too long for my taste - mainly because I already guessed the "secret" meaning of the prophecies. And of course you know who will win beforehand.
So what - it's a fantastic read!

Any one that has ever read fantasy knows that the plot is always predictable, but it is NOT the plot we read it for. It is the character involvement, and the minor detail that make a good book. In those area's, this is a great book, and very well written.

The book is great. Eddings has combined a good storyline with humor and good language to make an absorbing book. Although I wonder was it really necessary to make the ending so long? Although i like the Belgariad and the Elenium better than the Malloreon and the Tamuli, its still a great book. The only one problem is that Eddings keeps on using certain words and phrases. Think for a moment - How many times has the word and the phrase 'apoplexy' and 'One does ones best' been used in all the books? Theres also one particularly funny error in my copy of 'The Seeress of Kell. I don't know if it appears in any of the other copies, but it appears in mine. Near the middle of the book, after Sadi has poisoned Naradas, the Grolim sorcerer, the book says that Naradas was laid on a bier in the temple of Chamdar, the Arendish God. If you read the Belgariad, you'll know that the Arendish God is actually Chaldan and that Chamdar is a Grolim sent by Ctuchik to find Garion and Polgara. Chamdar is also the person that killed Garion's parents. If you'll overlook these small inaccuracies, the book is a great book. I still think so, even though that error involving Chamdar sent me into gales of laughter.

it was a bit sad to read the book knowing its the last bonbon, i bellive Eddings felt the same when he wrote the last 50 pages.
