Was expecting wow and got so-so, Spoiler... 25. Juni 2014
Von Melissa - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
The finale of Galen Foley's Inferno Club had a dashing hero (I expected this as her other heroes are very courageous), no problem there. But her heroine was just not up to par with her hero.

Spy, assassin and all around bad boy Nick is imprisoned by the Inferno Order for treasonous acts. A beautiful woman visits him offering a chance of freedom both literally and figuratively; she needs someone of his talents to assist her in a task that is dangerous. Nick jumps at this chance.

Gin is a widow, mother and lady detective. She knows Nick through her deceased father and she also knows beyond a shadow of doubt he is the only one to that can help her. She tells Nick of her desire to rescue girls involved in the sex slave trade. Nick is on board but he soon realizes that Gin is in charge.

The leads have an instantaneous spark and both try to fight it as much as possible. Nick is dazzling, he is bold, charming, creative, brooding, lonely and in desperate need of love and compassion. He is complex and a truly engrossing character. Ms Foley has a knack for creating a wonderful hero and Nick is no exception. He is brave beyond measure.

SPOILER... Gin is not as admirable. She describes herself as "a hardnosed B****". She is stubborn and her inner thoughts toward the hero are not always nice. She feels she "owns" Nick since he has been released to her custody and she even thinks of him as her pet wolf. Even more she lives a very indiscreet life for a mother of a fifteen year old, who is actually embarrassed to confront her many lovers. She was also mean to her former husband, attacking his manhood.

Nick seems to be always saving Gin from her rash actions although to be fair, she comes to his rescue once or twice but these seem minor in comparison to her own antics. Gin is suffering from a deep seeded need to please a dead father and an inability to trust her hero. She had a crush on Nick years ago and the reader can easily discern that Gin experiences those same passions again when she is with him, she has known of him for years but she cannot trust her own insights.

What I did like about this book was how well plotted the story was regarding Gin's son, Phillip and Nick's relationship with him. Adding this dimension to the story showed Nick in a fatherly light but also allowed Phillip to bond with a strong male figure. They worked together as a team ten times better than Gin and Nick. I would love to see Ms. Foley write a story about a grown up Phillip.

For me the Inferno club has been a hit or miss, this one has both hits and misses.

It could have been wonderful but the heroine displayed arse-like qualities 22. Juli 2014
Von Isabella - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Synopsis: A rebellious top crown agent, trained assassin (think black ops MI5 or Mossad in the Victorian era) who was imprisoned by his own order has been released by a luscious detective widow for a cray cray mission to find and rescue some abducted girls from slavers.

Ohh I loved Nick (the Hero). He was a tortured man searching for light and meaning in his dreary bloody existence. This led him to make some bad decisions of which he was still reaping the repercussions. On getting out of jail, he had no money, and no status ( a useless title and - amongst his order - a reputation as a deserter). Needless to say when the luscious lady showed up to release him and acted friendly, he was quite suspect.

spoiler alert:

This tale embarked with a lot of promise. My anticipation was building when I read the first few chapters but that soon came to a hiccuping halt due to the heroine, the luscious lady Gin. Really! why was she so insensitive? How do you take a man who has nothing and then continuously strip him of his dignity. First the doctors appointment, then the scene after he was with her son, soon after that the gambling den scene and on and on. Worse still, even when she realizes she has been very hurtful she refuses to apologize because "she would lose her control over him". Wow.

As if that isn't unlikeable enough, the controlling way she handles her son and parades her lovers in front of him, the way she treated her husband (I mean I get that he is not your ideal but he is still a person with feelings, gosh), her refusal to share simple information even when it can get the other person helping her killed...etc. She actually described herself as a "hardnosed b$tch" and I had to agree. I love my heroines strong and courageous, however I do like them to have some common sense and sensitivity.

Three stars because it is a good story but it could have been sensational with a better heroine.

A fitting conclusion 24. Juni 2014
Von Jen (Red Hot Books) - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This final installment in Gaelen Foleys Inferno Club series was one of my favorites. Nick is hero in need of redemption. He’s made some pretty bad choices, nearly skirting into villain territory in his efforts to break free of the Order. But as the story begins, he is paying the price for his actions… in a jail cell.

He is expecting an extended stay, but after just six months, he is offered a chance at freedom. All he has to do is help a beautiful woman on a spy mission. Making matters even more interesting, the lady Virginia is actually the secret daughter of Nick’s late mentor Virgil.

Though she is now a widow in her 30s, Virginia has nursed a crush on Nick since her teens. Though they never met, she saw him as a girl… and her father shared stories of him over the years. It was enough to make him the benchmark against which she measured other men. She enlists his help as much for him as for herself.

I really enjoyed watching Nick’s interactions with Virginia change how he saw himself and what he wanted for his future. After he turned his back on the Order, he lost respect for himself. He was unable to acknowledge his own sacrifices and heroism. But as a relationship grows with Virginia, he slowly becomes whole for the first time in his life.

The spy mission is pretty good. And the adventure moves the story along. I liked Virginia, though it always leads to Bad Things when the heroine keeps secrets from the hero. It’s a frustrating exercise for readers to have to watch the inevitable disaster play out, but at least the author didn’t milk it overly long.

I liked the infusion of Virginia’s teenage son into the story. Not only does he show another side of his mom, but it makes the family dynamic so satisfying in the end. I also enjoyed the romance overall, which had far more external conflicts than internal ones.

A good conclusion to the series.

it's just ok. 27. Juni 2014

It's the end of The Inferno Club series, and it was fine, not great, or that exiting. I expected better of Nicks story. I did not like Gin the heroine, she is supposed to be a strong independent woman, but at the first sign of a problem she royally messes up and almost gets Nick killed. And she keeps going on and on about being Virgil's daughter give me a break she is over 30 years old and is a mother, please.... Nick was fine not great as heroes go. I did like Phillip the son. So all in all it's readable especially if you have read the previous books.

A lot silly and really juvenile in characters, dialog and plot. 27. Juni 2014

I have read the others in the series and this one is considerably poorer. It is just too lame. When the male lead had the most potential to have complex issues, it makes for a great disappointment. As is typical in some romance novels,I spent a fair amount of time wanting to smack the female lead character for acting like an idiot.
