L.A. Secret Police. Inside the LAPD Elite Spy Network is a New York Times and Los Angeles Times Bestseller. This incredible non-fiction book rips the lid off the LAPD and exposes the reader to its dark underbelly of corruption during the reign of Chief Daryl Gates. L.A. cops ruined lives and reputations, inflicted mindless brutality, committed murder and engaged in massive cover-ups. In Los Angeles, police corruption was much more than unmarked envelopes stuffed with cash. It was a total corruption of power. For decades LAPD engaged in massive illegal spying and lied about it. Its spying targets included politicians, movie stars, professional athletes, news reporters and anyone wielding power or those of interest to Daryl Gates. Incredibly, the spying targets included a Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, a Secretary of Defense, a current Governor and the President of the United States. It all happened in Los Angeles.

Detective Rothmiller is the modern-day Frank Serpico; he exposed the tentacles of corruption which reached to the highest levels within the LAPD and Washington D.C. It wasn’t long after that an assassin attempted to take his life. It was apparent to many that powerful forces wanted him silenced. Incredibly, in this book Detective Rothmiller names names! See why this book changed the LAPD and is required reading at many universities. As former Assistant United States Attorney Marvin Rudnick said, “Rothmiller was in a position to know. He did very sensitive work.”

Every book has an ending. However, the ending of this book will shock you. Within the new epilogue is a multi-page essay written especially for this updated book by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Cay Johnston. In it he describes his personal experience as a target of Daryl Gates illegal intelligence operations while he served as a Los Angeles Times reporter. You’ll also read the challenge posed by detective Rothmiller to the LAPD. A challenge LAPD has refused to answer.

Since releasing this updated eBook, Detective Rothmiller has been interviewed dozens of times by the national media regarding current NSA domestic spying and the 2013 murderous rampage of former LAPD cop Christopher Dorner. In late 2013 Detective Rothmiller was interviewed for a major television documentary which will expose corruption and major crimes committed at the highest levels. The documentary is scheduled for release in 2016.

Look at the OCID, or Organized Crime Intelligence Division, which has accepted bribes and spied on innocent citizens.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Gates the monster 6. Oktober 2013

Growing up in the 80's on the east coast I first learned of Gates and his treacherous ways, funny enough not through the media but rather being a fan of rap music and hearing west coast rappers crucifying the guy on their records. I can remember Ice Cube uttering those famous words in one of his songs and warning "don't let me catch Daryl Gates in traffic!" I never heard anything positive associated with his name whenever it was spoken and often wondered why this guy had this Hitler like reputation as a police chief. This book, told from the perspective of a man who worked under Gates in one of his espionage type units does a good job of explaining how that reputation was well earned. Whether or not you choose to believe everything Rothmiller is telling you is up to each individual reader but, even if only half of what he says is the truth it's enough to make you cringe and wonder how many other commissioners and police chiefs around the country were, and are still engaging in such breaches of civil liberties. Scary stuff but very informative and will leave you wondering and scratching your head. Pretty crazy but I now understand why people felt and said the things about him they did say.

I read this book when it first came out and it's no less relevant now than it was then. It's amazing what the police in our own country were doing to our own citizens. It's a fast read that rivals the speed and action of some of the best fiction.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Must Read! 14. Januar 2014

Okay, I'll admit it: I was a sheeple. I bought food in the grocery store believing it was safe for me because the government wouldn't let me eat poisonous food, right? The book, Death by Supermarket (Deville) cured me of that. And I also believed that "Officer Friendly" was there to protect me, and the book L.A. Secret Police, cured me of that.

Over the last 5 years I have been on an enlightening journey of opening my eyes and waking up. And this book was a big part of that process. I know I drove my husband crazy because as I read further along into the book, I was constantly saying stuff like, "Wow! OMG! Honey, you gotta hear this....OMG!" Rothmiller's book just does that to you. It is filled with a lot of information that will leave you wth an upset stomach: its pretty disturbing. Not in a grotesque way, but in a Oh-my-God-I-cant-believe-this-really-goes-on kind of way.

At this price, I would get a couple of copies, because you will want your friends and family to read this book!

Excellent. Presents in microcosm what is wrong with the bureaucratic police machine in modern day America as well as how inept, incompetent, but politically astute leadership rises to the top. We see a reflection of what is going wrong in America, in it's justice system, and it's politics. We see why so many institutions are now out of control at all levels of government. We see daily reminders in Ferguson, in Cleveland, and in New York, of police out of control. In a perfect world, a book of this caliber should change things. Sadly, in this one, it won't. Read this book and you'll know why.

I grew up in the days when "Officer Friendly" would come to your elementary grade school and tell you why you should worship the police. Propaganda, much??!! Any way, my friend passed this book along to me and told me to be ready to be shocked and I was. NOT THAT I CONDONE CHRISTOPHER DORNER'S ACTIONS IN ANY WAY, but once you read this book, it certainly makes you wonder if what he said about LAPD before he went off on his shooting tirade last year is in any way true. This book will make you ponder a lot of different things!
