What a weird book! American Maggie Devereaux goes to Scotland to study Gaelic. She comes across a book of spells and decides to practice them. Meanwhile, evil abounds as young women on the college campus are brutally murdered. And then, the book gets even weirder.
Spells and weirdness aside, the book drags. We read every detail about Maggie's activities. And Maggie's not that interesting. Maggie is rather self-centered and downright rude to the aunt and uncle she's staying with in Scotland, only interacting with them when it suits her. She is very demanding to love-interest Iain, wanting him to skip his job to go traipsing about with her, and generally treats him badly.
All in all, a long boring bad read with unlikeable characters, and a really over the top, totally unbelievable, dumb ending.
