Pressestimmen

Thomas Merton Salt and Light has all the simple, luminous, direct vision into things that I have come to associate with Eberhard Arnold. It moves me deeply. It is the kind of book that stirs to repentance and to renewal. I am very grateful for it. J?rgen Moltmann, from the Foreword Arnold's writings are a light of hope in an age which seems very dark. May they no longer remain 'hidden under a bushel,' but shine out to be heeded by many. Pitirim A. Sorokin, Harvard University An admirable, excellent book needed by a world which has turned against the Great Teaching of Jesus.

Kurzbeschreibung

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus puts aside his usual parables and speaks plainly in language anyone can understand.

Like Francis of Assisi and others, Arnold chose to live out Jesus’ teachings by embracing their self- sacrificing demands. In this collection of talks and essays, he calls us to live for the Sermon’s ultimate goal: the overturning of the prevailing order of injustice. In its place, Arnold writes, we must build up a just, peaceable society motivated by love.

5.0 von 5 Sternen This book is profound, unique and uplifting. 28. September 1999
Format:Taschenbuch
Eberhard Arnold is one of the forgotten spiritual leaders of the 20th century. That is sad because his books are as timely now as when they were written nearly 70 years ago, many of them in protest against the creeping tide of Nazism and fascism. Salt and Light: Living the Sermon on the Mount is passionate in its insistence that Christianity is not a religion for dilettantes. To accept Christ and to really live His message is to risk giving everything up for love. Hate, fear, violence and injustice are not just crimes against humanity, they oppose the very organic fabric of creation. Arnold, in Salt and Light, makes it clear that Christians have a special obligation to preserve and cherish life, to peacefully oppose injustice and war and to spread a gosepl of love---not because it is "moral" and "ethical" to do those things, but because Christians in their faith (salt and light) possess the very essence of life, Christ. Read Arnold, and your relationship with God will change forever. Salt and Light is a classic.

5.0 von 5 Sternen only the clear message of life and love that are the essence of following Jesus 3. Dezember 2014
Von Julius L McCarter - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Eberhard Arnold's Salt and Light: Living the Sermon on the Mount is, next to Bonhoeffer's Discipleship, one of the two most significant theological expositions of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Though less popular in contemporary Christianity, Arnold is a clear, prophetic voice for Jesus' Kingdom.

In this deceptively small tome, one finds a collection of seventeen addresses and essays of Arnold which explore a single theme: "... the demand for human action and decision is central to the Sermon on the Mount" (p. 122).

Throughout Salt and Light, Arnold highlights that disciples of Jesus find these words inescapable. In Arnold's exposition, there are no parables, only the clear message of life and love that are the essence of following Jesus. The self-sacrifice of discipleship means we embrace community and enemies through concrete acts of love.

All that makes the collection of Salt and Light absolutely essential reading for disciples who are confronted with Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.

The Church, Arnold insists, is called to reject the world's injustice and build in its place a just, peaceable society motivated by love.

This is a book I'll be reading and quoting often. It's also one I'll begin requiring of my Sermon on the Mount students.
