I would definitely like to reccommend this coffee machine! I travelled all the way from Melbourne, Australia to Germany to find one of these machines in 2003, so enthused was I!!!!! I was not disappointed.
Apparently first constructed in 1993 by Swiss Artist, Designer and Sculturist CARLO BORER (1961), there were originally only 50 made. These were immediately all sold - mostly to the designer's friends! - After the word spread, numerous requests filtered through to the designer, and he agreed to make a larger but limited batch. In 2001, after 1700 pieces only, production ceased, no doubt in order to retain the collector's value of the machines.
The machine is easy to use. The upper section of the rounded chrome-steel body can be lifted off to pour the water in. On the front, you select 1 of 3 settings: STEAM / COFFEE / WATER STREAM. On the right side is the ON / OFF switch. In this regard, the machine is simple and straight-forward to use.
No adjustments can be made to the amount of steam pressure, however, after 3 years of use, the machine has not degraded in quality - it works the same as on day one. I'm very pleased.
The design is unique and beautiful. Anyone who enters you home will be amazed by this work of art, so get ready to answer questions, the very first of which will be: "What is it?" Despite its modern design, this aspect does not interfere with its functionality.
The biggest challenge is perhaps keeping the machine clean, as it can be tricky to manouver around the aluminium spikes, but well worth the effort. If you are into the finer things in life, design and functionality, don't go any further than this baby!!!
