Another six hour journey in Tanzania and another book is read. This was a page-turner! Even if I wanted to, I couldn't stop (as my eyes drifted occasionally, looking at the impoverishment of this rural part of the country), reading the words that described the build-up to and aftermath of `The Massacre' in Beirut. It was the time of terrorism, butchery, and struggles to mend people in the over-burdened hospital with well-meaning foreigners - the stoic strength of John the Glaswegian being captured well. As in all such awful circumstances (see my review of The Kindly Ones), love still chose to come to the surface.
