Enemies and friends

Reeling from the shocking discovery of Rodney McKay’s fate, Colonel Sheppard and his team retreat to Atlantis to regroup. With Rodney not only in the hands of the Wraith, but apparently working for them, Atlantis faces a new danger — their own man, turned against them.

While Zelenka and Colonel Carter work frantically to crack the security protocols McKay embedded in Atlantis’s computer system, Ronan revisits his past and finds much is changing on Sateda. Meanwhile, Queen Death prepares to make use of her most valuable prisoner; with Rodney still unaware of his true identity, the fate of Atlantis hangs in the balance…

Set after the TV series’ exciting finale, STARGATE ATLANTIS: Allegiance is book three of the gripping new Legacy series.

Book three of the Legacy series

“Oh, not good,” Zelenka said, and followed it in Czech with what sounded like something heartfelt. “We have systems shutting down — internal sensors, power to the weapons chair —”

“Get that thing shut down,” Lorne said.

“Yes, I am trying —”

“What the hell is going on?” Sheppard said, tearing up the stairs into the control room, wearing sweatpants tucked into the tops of his boots and a flannel shirt he hadn’t bothered to tuck in at all.

“This is Rodney’s work,” Zelenka said. “His programs are shutting down our security systems, and I cannot stop it. I am afraid we are going to lose the iris.”

“Security teams to the gateroom,” Sheppard said into his radio. “Sound a citywide alarm.” Salawi’s hands moved uncertainly over her keyboard, but it was only seconds before the alarm sounded. “Put me on citywide,” Sheppard said, and waited for Salawi’s quick nod before he went on. “This is Colonel Sheppard. Assume that as of now we are facing an attack by unknown hostiles who are trying to get through the Stargate. I want security teams on full alert —”

Zelenka breathed a curse in Czech, all the more alarming because his tone was hushed rather than heated. “The iris is shutting down…”

Rodney attacking Atlantis, his sister Jeanne and Carter on her way to stop him, Zelenka struggling with being Head of Sciences, Ronon finding out that there are still/again people living on Sateda ... Trouble all over the Pegasus Galaxy

3.0 von 5 Sternen Some plot movement with lots of filler... 1. Dezember 2011
Von Lisa - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
The Stargate Atlantis Legacy series seems to be following the same trend as the recent Star Wars multi-author, multi-book series; by that I mean there is perhaps enough main story for about three books and the rest is padded with filler material and similar situations that repeat themselves time and again through the books without any real resolution. Which is a sad situation because the best scenes in ALLEGIENCE were those that moved the plot on to the next book; unfortunately, those scenes were few and interspersed with much padding (mainly scenes in which two or more characters gathered and talked about other characters).

My main complaints about the series (the out-of-left-field Wraith names/culture that doesn't mesh with the Atlantis of the TV show, random original characters, etc.) are the same from my reviews of the first two books of the series and I won't rehash them again here. Speaking of the original characters, though, I wouldn't characterize them as Mary Sue's; however, the fact that more than one has the Ancient gene (whether natural or from the gene therapy) and/or has some previous background with a member of Atlantis, I feel the authors are walking a mighty thin line in that respect.

The Ancient artifact museum wasn't a bad idea but I wouldn't have had it located on the homeworld of an Atlantis team member. I feel it would have felt less contrived if it had been stumbled upon on a random world. In all the seasons of Atlantis and all the problems that happened along the way, you'd think said team member would say "Hey, there's this whole museum of Ancient artifacts here."

The biggest balldrop in my opinion was the underuse of Jeanne Miller. Why bring her all the way to Atlantis and then use her in only three scenes? I'd like to see Teyla in more than a negotiator/woman-between-worlds role as well. I miss the kick-butt Teyla of old. Yes, she's a mother now but she can still throw down with the best of 'em. There was also a short mention of Amelia Banks talking to Ronon that if you squinted just right and stood on your head could be taken as a reference to their canon relationship (a lack of which was a complaint of mine of the first two books). Perhaps something more overt will show in Book 5 or 6.

But what I really hope for in both Books 5 and 6 is less padding and more forward plot movement/resolution.

Many words, a cast of thousands, not much happening, and just when you think something might happen... nothing happens. This is probably the curse of a series hump book, but seriously, why oh why all the people? Also, surprised (but not in a good way) that pinch hitters were brought in to write this one. This installment is mostly filler but sadly must be read to stay out of the story blind spot in upcoming books. BONUS: The McKay storyline advancement was refreshing and does make the book somewhat enjoyable. This is the weakest attempt in the arc. 3 stars because it's SGA man! Looking forward to Book 4!

4.0 von 5 Sternen OK book, great series! 1. Mai 2013

This Legacy series of books was AMAZING! I will admit that some books weren't 5-star, but the story arc that runs through all 6 books is quite top-notch. The writers for the series would have had just as much critical acclaim for this story arc and the way it all wrapped up a very good TV series.

As opposed to many official books, this book strayed into new relationships, ended old ones, and kept 100% in the spirit and the feelings of the show without so much as a blink. It read a like a well-developed fan-fiction, while keeping the pace and restrictions (no, not everyone ascended & used their God-like powers to destroy everything they didn't like) that the TV series was known for. This series did not overreach what the show was about any more than a final season would, it tied up a lot of little things quite nicely as well as leaving many other things open-ended. It reminded me quite a bit of the 8th season of SG-1.

This book was OK. It had some slow points that I knew I just needed to plow through to get back to the story arc that was ongoing in the series. Think of your not-so-favorite episodes of Stargate: Atlantis. They kinda dragged, but they all move the story of our favorite characters in the Pegasus galaxy along.

I was pleasantly surprised by this latest book in the Legacy series. Everytime i thought i knew what was going to happen something else happened to change it all. Rodney's tale just keeps getting more tangled until its difficult to see how things can ever go back to normal (relatively speaking, of course). The amount of action packed in just pushed me to read it even faster, it felt like not a single page went by without something happening. Of course, the ending is another thing entirely, i kept hitting the next page button on my kindle but there was no more. It was a suitable place to end and it certainly left me wanting more. Bring on the next book!
