Kurzbeschreibung

Julie Brannagh's sparkling and romantic Love and Football series continues!

For Amy Hamilton, only three Fs matter: Family, Football, and Flowers. It might be nice to find someone to share Forever with, too, but right now she's working double overtime while she gets her flower shop off the ground. The last thing she needs or wants is a distraction … or help, for that matter. Especially in the form of gorgeous and aggravatingly arrogant ex-NFL star Matt Stephens.

Matt lives by a playbook—his playbook. He never thought his toughest opponent would come in the form of a stunning florist with a stubborn streak to match his own. Since meeting her in the bar after her sister's wedding, he's known there's something between them. After she refuses—again and again—to go out with him, Matt will do anything to win her heart … But will Amy, who has everything to lose, let the clock run out on the one-yard line?

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Julie Brannagh has been writing since she was old enough to hold a pencil. She lives in a small town near Seattle, where she once served as a city council member and owned a yarn shop. She shares her home with a wonderful husband, two uncivilized Maine Coons, and a rambunctious chocolate Lab.

When she’s not writing, she’s reading—or armchair-quarterbacking her favorite NFL team from the comfort of the family room couch. Julie is a Golden Heart® finalist and the author of contemporary sports romances.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Nicht mein Geschmack 6. Mai 2014

Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent follow up with real life characters 17. Februar 2014
Von A Caffeinated Reader - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I was on the fence about giving this second book in the Love and Football series 4 or 5 stars - it's a 4.5 for me, so how does someone rate that? I ended up going with 5 stars - explained below.

Julie Brannagh delivers again with the thing I like most about this series (and I'm not talking about her excellent insights into the prof'l football world, which I really like too). She writes real people, with busy lives and real problems. Before I get to the real character aspect, though, I want to share one of my favorite lines:

"His phone could double as a sex-toy, judging by the non-stop vibration since he pulled it out of his pocket."

That excellent observation of detail - that's what sucks me in to the writing. The author writes about the way former athletes try to eat healthy, in ways that normal people find a little odd, and the "inexhaustible supply" of logo t-shirts that they get, how sports shows make the "talkings heads" wear specific blazers, the super big fancy showers that big rich sports guys like - all those details were spot on and made the book feel real.

She also gives her hero and heroine real problems, not fake ones, and no one is a fake-bad character to drive the conflict. Instead the conflict springs from the hero and heroine's different lives and personalities - which is much more real than a cardboard-conflict created just for the plot.

For instance, Amy is exhausted from working super hard at her small business (florist - she's making deliveries, doing the store, books, everything). In one scene, she has to go straight from work to a fundraiser, and that means changing her clothes in her office, something a lot of us have had to do before. She's burning the candle at both ends to get her business on its feet, maybe ignoring Matt a little more than a guy like him is used to, which eventually leaves Matt feeling like he wants to help her ... for a complicated set of reasons, including just because he wants to see more of her and isn't really listening to what she says she wants. So he does what a guy with a lot of money would do to help her.... even though what he does is a little bit deceitful and undermines her independence. The author made all the decisions ring very true for me, that mix of pride on both their parts and his impulsiveness, and then not being able to undo something, or unsay it. I liked that a lot. I really liked that the hero's actual actions - not something clichéd like the heroine saw a gossip report that he was with someone else - is what came between them (temporarily!)

I also really appreciated that Matt's ex-wife and mother of his daughter is NOT evil. Let me write that again: the ex-wife is a decent person, nice to Amy b/c it makes sense to be nice to the person your daughter's going to spend time with. Julie Brannagh doesn't use the worn out trope of the ex-wife or girlfriend is terrible (I always think those evil ex characters reflect poorly on the hero or heroine's judgment about relationships, don't you?). It just made the book feel more real, and I think it was taking a big chance with writing something different, in a way that I don't remember seeing in many (any?) other romances.

So this is a great romance for digging in to the way two adults learn to communicate honestly and openly. I think it's a great relationship book, wrapped in football and hard work and parenting and all the things real people like to do.

The kid Samantha is NOT a plot moppet, FYI. She's one of the few well-written kids I can remember reading recently.

As I said up front, Rushing Amy is really a 4.5 stars for me - the only drawback for me was that I wanted Matt and Amy to solve their problems at the end a little bit quicker. Amy took a little too long to make her decision -- she worked out a bunch of great stuff, but I wanted her to move a little faster. I felt like Matt had to jump through one hoop to many, and yet at the same time he didn't follow up on the opening she gave him when she finally did. I thought a guy like him would have come on a little harder once he had an opening. Once they started talking again, they didn't seem to use modern communication technology to stay in touch - I understand that Matt had some things to work out still, but it felt like they each let things lapse at the end just to delay the reunion. It's a small thing, but readers should go into Rushing Amy knowing that when you're completely READY for them to get their HEA, there's One More Thing (or two). But since that was my only complaint -- it's a pretty small one, isn't it? -- it's definitely a 4.5 star book.

Oh, and I can say that in the epilogue where the hero and heroine expand their family, there is the actual pain of childbirth and another thing I've NEVER seen in a romance novel bouncing baby epilogue -- even more radical than a nice ex-wife -- there is nursing (baby)! I kid you not. It was, again, like real life, not like a bunch of babies playing on a grassy lawn and everyone one-upping each other with happy babies. This is the first epilogue I've liked this much in a long time.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Rich Dessert of a Romance 28. Februar 2014
Von Sebella Blue - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
If this book was a food, it would be "Death by Chocolate". Rich, decadent, and just sweet enough to know you're indulging your wicked side. Rushing Amy is that "reserved for special occasions" treat, that makes the day extra special because you get to indulge so rarely. While the characters weren't fairy tale perfect, (although Matt came pretty damn close) they weren't what has become so popular now, the tragically damaged and depressed H/h. They were relatively normal people dealing with normal issues while trying to find a not so average love to enhance their lives. I praise Julie Brannagh for not following the trendy formula and saving my hopes for the romance genre's future.

Matt's near perfection and ardent pursuit of Amy was just what I needed to wash the dreary winter blahs out of my head space for a bit. Amy was a truly excellent heroine, keeping true to herself and determined to make her own way in her own style. Yaaaaay!! Girl power! The engaging and snappy dialogue, honest and believable emotion, a well told, smoothly written story, and some absolutely lovable secondary characters (I want to go clubbing with Matt's mom!) Rushing Amy can find a home on any romance lover's bookshelf. In fact I think doctor's everywhere would be well advised to prescribe one dose of Julie Brannagh's Love and Football series for all sorts of general malaise. The cure rate would be astronomical. If you can't smile after reading these books, you should be admitted to an ICU immediately. Although a noted rise in body temperature would be a predictable and prevalent side effect. Get a jump on spring sunshine and check out Amy and Matt's story. You'll be very glad you did.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Sweet and sexy football romance 11. März 2014
Von Amy Burzynski - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
This book has one of the funniest openings to a romance I've ever read, in which Amy (the heroine) gets ridiculously drunk after her sister's wedding and says some things to Matt, the hero, which she later finds mortifying. And the next few chapters are equally cute, in which Matt tries to court Amy by patronizing her flower shop (I can't go into detail here or I'll spoil the joke).

I love that Matt is the quintessential alpha male, yet this never comes at the heroine's expense. Amy is a fiercely independent businesswoman who's not going to let anyone push her into a diminished role. I also loved that Matt is a great father to his teenage daughter and has an amicable relationship with his ex-wife. This is a very satisfying sports romance. Recommended.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Better than the first! 25. März 2014
Von Jen DeGlopper - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I was iffy on buying this after I read the first one. However, it started out faster and the action held up longer than the first. The connection between Matt and Amy seemed more authentic. Finally, the sex scenes were better written and more enjoyable. I liked this book. I'm a hard score for a five, though. I thought the time between the break up and the reunion was boring. Amy was being a little ridiculous in my opinion and the lack of anything productive made it a difficult part to get through. I think the conflict could have been better thought out than it was as well. All in all, it was worth the purchase.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Romance and football! 1. Juli 2014

What more could an avid reader and sports lover ask for. This is one of a trilogy and I thoroughly loved all three. Will look for more of this authors work. As with many of my thousand Kindle books, I discovered her through a free book of this trilogy called Catching Cameron, the third was Blitzing Emily. Enjoyed all three!
