As a former runner thinking to get back into it in my 40's I snatched this book right up. I wasn't disappointed, but was a little sheepish at some of the things I'd been doing wrong. Welle explains the hows and whys of preparing your body for running, including strength training, mobility and recovery. He also explains the proper techniques for running so that you do not destroy your body but benefit from the activity.

I have a lot of running books. I really like this one, and also "Run Faster with Less Effort" by another author. This book by Scott Welle is very easy to read and I enjoy his style of writing. I've already gotten so much benefit, from following his tips and guidelines. I find myself during my runs, reminding myself of his tips. They are easy to understand and implement. You would think all you do is go out and run, but if you are at all competitive, he takes you to another level. I've been running for 2 yrs straight, now. I started running 10 yrs ago, but never stuck with it, Until now, I'm happy to say. This book certainly has encouraged me to run for the rest of my life.

thanks for such a compacted book about a sport i love.
I really appreciated the explanation of how lactic acid build up in our bodies. I've been about to share this info with clients as well.
I think everyone who runs would do themselves good with a simple explanation like Scott shares.

I worked with Scott back in 2005 and only reconnected with him recently. I knew he was well educated and very knowledgable about fitness and that he was a pretty serious runner, so I had high expectations. I have to say, he's met all of them!

About six weeks ago, I decided I wanted to improve my running and began a 10k training program. The start of my training coincided with facebook posts about Scott's book. Since it was on topic, I decided to try it out. It has added so much! The dynamic stretching has been a game-changer; I learned a lot of new things about nutrition and form; and, most importantly, Scott's vibrant, positive energy permeates every page. It was obvious that a lot of these tips came from his own experience as an athlete and a coach and that he is enthusiastic about passing along his knowledge to the rest of us. And let me be clear: although I am only a beginning runner now, I am positive that this book is going to stay with me throughout my running career!

The book is a much quicker read than I expected, and it is written in accessible, engaging prose. I didn't feel like I was reading some boring technical book; I felt like I was having a conversation with Scott. The online access portion also has a wealth of extra info and videos.

Highly recommend!

I'm a teen and just starting running. I saw this book and decided I should learn some tips. The book is well written and provided great advice. The book is an easy read and I learn a great deal.
