Sarah Palin in this book is a Presidential version of James Bond or Indiana Jones. Bond and Jones are larger than life heroes, able to defeat foes when out-numbered or out-gunned, and able to deal with danger and difficulties that most people would have no hope of surviving. If you like that sort of political book, or if you are a big Tea Party fan, you will like this book. In many ways, American could use a president like Sarah Palin in this book. It's be great if we could lower taxes, balance the budget, and win the war in Afghanistan in a single year. But then sometimes we think we could use cops like Dirty Harry, spies like James Bond, and soldiers like Rambo. People like that don't exist, and neither does the Sarah Palin described in this book; I was hoping for something more fair and balanced.
As noted by another reviewer, there are a few typos and spelling mistakes, not to many. The odd thing I noticed was that the grammar changed. The first part of the book was written more like an essay, "What would Sarah Palin do if elected President?" "Sarah would address congress", "Sarah would travel to Europe for a summit", etc. Later, it changed to more natural style, Sarah did this, Sarah traveled to Europe. I wouldn't be surprised if initially it had been an essay or Blog post or intended to be one, and the author decided to change it to a book.
She is portrayed as a rogue, the title is accurate. She has a "no earmarks" policy which many Republicans in congress disagree with, for example. She challenges both Democrats and Republicans to stop putting politics in front of people.
But how is she an action hero? Her "take no prisoners" policy in Afghanistan wins the war in a year. She cuts taxes and lower the deficit to it's lowest level in ten years. (Later, when she tries to balance the budget for 2016, the evil Congress lets some tax cuts lapse, therefore the deficit goes up.) She pushes for a constitutional amendment defining marriage, yet the gays still support her for her economic policies. She pushes for and gets the strongest piece of anti-abortion legislation passed since Roe v. Wade, yet no one takes a challenge to the Supreme Court. She pushed Congress to finally pass immigration reform that included removing illegal immigrants from the country (which is what happens today if they are caught. The hard part is finding them). Anderson Cooper does a behind the scenes documentary, "and people could see that she was a genius"
Her enemies? She tirelessly campaigns for the GOP, only to have them not support her for reelection. She is betrayed by her own VP which contributes to her losing the reelection. That and, of course, the lies spread by Obama, the media, etc. Some examples:
"Obama riled up crowds with nonsensical rhetoric that only matched socialist leaders from past days. To say it was un-American was an understatement."
"the liberal media treated Palin worse than they treated Osama Bin Laden after 9-11. Never had a sitting president been called a 'bitch'" (Well, technically, it would be an odd insult to call a man.)
"While Obama could try to claim the presidency through thug-like tactics, Palin could display her talent for leadership every day."
"The Democratic National Convention ... Filled with radicals and corrupt special interest groups..."
"Obama tried to convince the American people that they needed him like a messiah to come and save them..."
"For every Acorn member intimidating voters, there were three Tea Party members ensuing that every voter got their say" (Acorn was shut down in 2009, but are somehow active for the 2016 election)
