Well, at first "The Rocky Horror Show" was not much more than trashy cheesiness - and it definitely shows on this recording. Patricia Quinn certainly was a stand-out in the movie but her rendition of "Science Fiction Double Feature" is much less mood-setting than countless other versions. Richard O'Brien and Little Nell fair better in their respective roles but especially the latter is not too present here. Belinda Sinclair is not too strong on "Touch me", but she does help make "Super Heroes" a highlight of the recording. The best and most centered performance, however, comes from Tim Curry - he certainly grew in the role making him much superior in the movie version. Still, he is ever the entertainer on this recording as well. I don't really care all that much for "Sweet Transvestite" but here, it is one of the few numbers that really come to life. If this production - and probably this recording - had not been, we would probably be one cult show short today - but it does not make sense to measure Rocky Horror's merits by this recording alone.
