Kurzbeschreibung

28. Juni 2012
This book goes beneath the surface of what it means to be the Female Breadwinner and drags women kicking and screaming out of the closet. Why? Because, being the Female Breadwinner can fundamentally challenge women's identity. It is the trigger, catalyst and cause for many complex issues that women have to manage. For a successful family life and career, women must address and examine these internal challenges for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Find out: where your guilt button is and who is pressing it, what you love about being breadwinner that you were afraid to admit, how you tackle the thorny subject of money, how to cure yourself of Superwoman Syndrome.

Pressestimmen

Jenny Garrett charts the rise of the female main earner (ME) in her highly engaging exploration of female breadwinners. That a fifth of women in the UK now earn more than their partners is significant, yet we hear little about this. Garrett's book illustrates why this is something we should celebrate, and yet we are resistant to do so.This book is an invaluable and inspiring source for those who will, either through choice or by chance, embark on this exciting route. She offers advice and space to reflect and challenges one of the modern day taboos. -- Mary Honeyball MEP, London MEP and Labour European spokesperson on women From the moment I started reading Rocking Your Role I was totally absorbed, recognising so many of the issues that Jenny refers to within this clearly written and practical book. She takes the reader on a journey which makes you question so many things about yourself but in a way that energises you to step back and think about your work life balance, and the importance of being honest with yourself and those around you. It will resonate with successful women, especially those who are the female breadwinners, in all areas of life. -- Pim Baxter, Deputy Director, National Portrait Gallery A rare and powerful book covering an immensely important subject in a personal, practical and very moving way. I was inspired by reading it and left breathless by the achievements of the author and the women whose stories she tells. -- Dr Ann Limb OBE DL, Chair, South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership Reading this book lifted the clouds of expectations, guilt, imaginary limitations... it liberated me to pursue my own personal dreams while still providing for my family. -- Nadine Juignet, Business Development Advisor at Hewlett Packard This is a well researched book, that I think will meet a real need, the practical exercises are welcomed, much better than just a pile of theory. Perfect for those women struggling with being breadwinner. -- Heather McGregor, Author, Careers Advice for Ambitious Women Jenny's insightful work is clearly founded on a deep understanding of the dynamics of relationships and careers, and on the ways in which people develop and learn, as well as on her interviews with women specifically for this book. I wish Rocking Your Role well; a book like this, should it become a top seller, will do more to transform the lives of women, and those of their partners and families, than any number of Government commissions -- Philip Whiteley, Business author Jenny has a great writing voice and has bought a human touch to a taboo subject with great sensitivity and creativity. -- Jackee Holder, Coach, Author Jenny is an inspirational role model and her book provides a practical guide to huge possibilities if we heed her liberating advice. I felt hugely empowered as I worked through the exercises and loved her "ego check" section. A must read book for every woman which I will buy for my dearest girl friends. -- Lynne Sedgmore CBE, Executive Director of the 157 Group of FE Colleges

5.0 von 5 Sternen A "must read" for every professional woman 13. März 2013

I have read the first chapter of this book and couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the entire book, as there are practical exercises for examining (without guilt) your career as the main breadwinner in your home, doing so over a 12-week period of journalling and reflection. The tone of Jenny's book is uplifting and inspiring, as she shares not just from clinical expertise, but from her own heart and soul.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Don't get frustrated with your husband anymore 11. Januar 2013

Format:Taschenbuch
I think this book will open your eyes to some dilemmas women face when confronted with today's reality of having the their men take a new role living behind traditional roles that we as women as very accustomed to. It will answer many questions that have not been answered and recognize attitudes that we have not realize we as women had because of the newness of our new roles in this society. I think this book can be very helpful to women that are in the workforce unwillingly and thus face the frustrations of adjusting to a roll they are not necessarily happy about.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Practical and insightful advice 8. Januar 2013
Von Christine Gallagher - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Jenny Garrett's "Rocking Your Role" provides a practical and insightful approach to examining your status as a female breadwinner. She is candid and empathetic, yet pointed in her thoughts on how to examine yourself in a breadwinner role. I am only through the first chapter of the book, but I look forward to reading more and taking Garrett's career and self development approach on board. Her work is necessary and relevant in a time when more and more women are supporting families/themselves. I would also like to note that Garrett's micro and macro approach to career and self evaluation emphasizes practice over a longer period of time rather than a "quick-fix" solution.

This book is a great addition overall to the discussion of women's leadership!
