    Kurzbeschreibung

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia London delivers another standalone, heartwarming love story in her Pine River series.

Curly-haired Libby Tyler never stops smiling…until her beloved boyfriend suddenly forces her out of their home and away from his adoring kids. When she learns he dumped her for his flighty ex-wife, Libby’s sadness turns to fury—and she very publicly smashes his truck with a golf club, earning herself a trip to a mental health center for some “rest.”

Handsome, hazel-eyed deputy Sam Winters has been sober for two years. Afraid of backsliding, he lives in the mountains and keeps his distance from people. Yet he never forgot Libby, his former colleague at the sheriff’s office whose charm and cheerfulness always warmed his days.

Now Libby’s back, ignoring the townspeople’s whispers (and her ex’s restraining order) while desperately trying to make Homecoming Ranch a successful event destination. She keeps causing trouble for Sam, but he finds her smile more beautiful than ever…and his touch gives her thrills she’s never felt. Could these two lost souls mend each other’s broken hearts?

    Return to Homecoming Ranch
I received an ARC in return for an honest review and feel privileged to have done so. I have now bought a copy to keep.
I really enjoyed reading about Sam and Libby, particularly because this is a meaty novel that deals with some tough issues. Sam is a recovering alcoholic who doubts his ability to deal with Libby's separation issues associated with the break-up of her relationship with Ryan. It's not Ryan she misses but Ryan's children, whom Libby has raised and loved from the time they were babies. Libby has a lot to deal with too as she slowly moves on with her life. Throw into this mix a side story involving returned Afghanistan veteran Tony who lost a leg thanks to an IED and now faces PTSD, alcoholism and self worth issues and you have the basis for a darned good story. Oh yes, and there's narrator Leo Kendrick, whose issues with motor neurone disease are interwoven through the story. This is the second book in the series and was just as good as the first one. If you're after a book you can sink your teeth into rather than just the usual run of the mill girl meets boy story then this one will fit the bill nicely. Another winner for Julia London!

Once again we visit Pine River and Homecoming Ranch, this time we learn the story of Libby Tyler. She lost herself when her fiancée, Ryan Spangler, broke their engagement with such cruelty. Libby suffered a breakdown. To find herself she needs to turn away from her dreams and from Ryan's two children that she loves with all her heart. That's easier said than done. Sam Winters, a deputy sheriff who she's known for years, tries to help as a recovering alcoholic he understands the obsession. Can they both find peace and a future? Julia London writes with such deep emotion and such realism as she tells the story of Libby and Sam. This story pulls at your heartstrings. The pain, fears and loss pack such a powerful pull that I was unable to put this book down. Return To Homecoming Ranch is filled with stellar characters and a captivating plot. I liked Leo doing the narrative. He's such an amazing character. This book is a keeper. As always this author deals with difficult topics with skill, insight and understanding. Julia London is a must buy for me.

I was gifted a copy by the author in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

    5.0 von 5 Sternen Lovely Romance! 22. Juli 2014
Von Donna M. Brown - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
    Format:Taschenbuch
Libby Tyler is facing a dilemma. She must turn a profit on Homecoming Ranch or face losing her home, the home her father left her and her two sisters in an unbreakable will. Her sisters have left to follow their own dreams, leaving the success of the ranch as a tourist attraction up to her. To add to her woes, Libby’s boyfriend leaves her for his ex-wife. She doesn’t miss him as much as his kids and goes to all lengths to see them. Libby is angry enough to take a golf club to his truck. Unfortunately there are plenty of witnesses. Her outburst lands her in a mental institution for a short while. Sheriff’s deputy Sam Winters is a recovering alcoholic who works hard at maintaining his sobriety. He lives alone and shuns public life to stay sober. Libby holds a special place in his heart, but he’s growing tired of her antics and constant violations of the restraining order her ex-boyfriend maintains to keep her away from his kids. The couple discovers they are more alike than they’ve been willing to admit, a kinship that leads to passion.

In this wonderful drama, Ms. London deals with serious issues while interspersing them with the humor and insight provided by Leo Kendrick’s commentary. His motor neuron condition might be worsening, but Leo’s powers of observation are still keen. The romance of Libby and Sam hits high spots and some lows as they travel the road to their happily ever after; it’s well worth the ride. This book can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading Homecoming Ranch, the first book in the series, just for the pleasure of the tale. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to see characters that grow as the book progresses. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It’s well worth the read.

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not as good as the first book but still worth the read 15. August 2014

    * I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Return to Homecoming Ranch was a definitely a challenge for me as a reader.

Libby Tyler always had the reputation of a happy go-lucky girl, until her boyfriend of four years kicks her out of his home and denies her access to his children, children she lovingly raised as her own. When she finds out that he ended their relationship in order to return to his ex-wife and the children's mother, Libby takes a golf club to his truck. Unfortunately that move earns her a stay in a mental center and the reputation of an unstable woman.

A recovering alcoholic, Sam Winters prefers not to mix with people unless his job calls for it. He remembers Libby as a bright, happy woman who made his days memorable. Now though, all she does is cause trouble for him. Violating restraining orders, confronting her ex and more, Sam just wants Libby to settle down. However, with all the trouble Libby's causing, Sam finds himself in her company more than he wants to be and both of them become attracted to one another which leads to a whole new set of complications.

I have never come so close to not finishing a book before. I mean it, Return to Homecoming Ranch almost got a DNF from me. Almost.

Why? Because of Libby, the heroine. Now, I don’t expect a perfect heroine but dang Libby was just so hard to like! She was so obsessed with her ex-boyfriend’s kids that it was creepy and scary! I understand that she spent four years raising those kids and then all of a sudden her boyfriend kicks her out of the house and their lives in order to return to his ex-wife and the mother of his children. I understood how crushing that could be to someone who loves kids and who raised two children who weren’t hers. I admired that Libby had such a big, loving heart. However, once she was out of the picture she should have stepped back and let their mother raise them while she tried to find some legal way to see the kids. Those were not her kids in the eyes of the law and their mother was not out of the picture any more. Libby should have been more mature and intelligent about being in the kids’ lives instead of going nuts and coming off as a potential kidnapper or stalker. Libby was irresponsible, careless with others’ feelings and just generally annoyed me with her “Me, me, me” attitude. Her behavior completely contradicted her feelings towards the kids. She made things harder on them than was necessary. She would stir up trouble with her juvenile antics and then, rather than face the consequences like an adult, would whine about how it wasn’t her fault. I just wanted to yell “Grow up all ready! People believe the worst of you because you only show them the worst!” It wasn’t until I was 80% of the way through the book that Libby became tolerable.

Sam was a little better. He’s thoughtful, serious but kind and loyal. I loved how, even though there were times he didn’t know how to help himself with his alcoholism, he always wanted to help others who were struggling. He’s such a good friend to others that I couldn’t help but want him to have the same for himself. I enjoyed the touch of realism that author Julia London put into Sam’s daily struggles with alcohol. It’s not easy and there is no such thing as being “cured,” a fact that the author brought to the front and drove home. It was Sam’s battle with alcohol that made him more real and attention worthy. The only downside to Sam was that he fell in love with Libby.

Now for the real reason I had to read this book: Leo. I fell so in love with the witty, loving character who sometimes highjacks the story in order to tell things from his point of view. My love for Leo stems from admiration. Leo has motor neuron disease and its terminal yet he’s so vibrant and full of life. He’s got a sarcastic streak a mile wide but a heart that’s beyond measure. I adore this character and found myself rapidly scanning each page for any scenes with him. He’s one of those characters that grabs your attention and never lets go. I hope Leo continues to make appearances in the next book in the series. He brings such a smile to my face every time he appears.

Overall, Return to Homecoming Ranch is a good book. Even with the heroine being obnoxious and a little creepy, the romance is tender and sweet but still has a rating of “R” for language and detailed but not graphic sex scenes. The real scene stealer though was and probably always will be Leo.

Final Verdict: If you can overlook a character like Libby and see through to the story then I definitely recommend Return to Homecoming Ranch. If you haven't read this series yet, be prepared to fall in love with Leo.

    5.0 von 5 Sternen wonderful story 22. Juli 2014

Once again we have Leo telling us the story, this time its about Libby (and Sam). I just want to know how Leo knows some of the things he does.

Libby had her world turned upside down over the summer, her boyfriend broke up with her then told her that she needed to stay far away from him and the kids. Kids that she had been like a mother to for couple of years, had grown to love like her own, kids that she was with 24/7 except when they were in school. That is a lot for anyone to handle, and the stress of Homecoming Ranch added on top of that would make anyone loose their s***, sorry. And yeah, Libby lost it, everyone in town was calling her crazy.
Enter Sam. Sam is the local sheriff officer, handsome & quiet. Well, Libby apparently can't abide with the restraining order from her ex, and Sam is too lenient with her. Ask me, and he should have put her butt in jail for a night. It might have woken her up a little sooner.
But low and behold, Libby did wake up and figure things out on her own-after getting in trouble more than once and Sam saving her tail.
Sam, he should have either spoke up sooner about his feelings for Libby or completely left crazy chit alone. But he is super kind-hearted, not to mention soft-hearted.
Madeline, she didn't pay much of a role in this book but when she was mentioned she was annoying.
And boom a surprise visit from Emma at the end!
Great book, great story and very well written- as usual from Ms. London!
I hope we get at least one more book- I'd love to hear about Emma, and of course I need to know what happens to Leo!
