Kurzbeschreibung

Rick Denton lives his life on his terms. He works hard, plays hard, and answers to no one. So when his mother calls on Thanksgiving weekend begging him to come home after his stepfather has a stroke, Rick is more than a little reluctant. He's never liked Art and resents the man's presence in his life, despite the fact that his own father abandoned the family when Rick was just twelve. When what was supposed to be just a couple days helping out at the family bookstore turns into weeks of cashing out old ladies and running off the homeless man who keep hanging about, Rick's attitude sours even more.

Still, slowly but surely, the little bookstore and its quirky patrons--as well as the lovely young woman who works at his side each day--work their magic on him, revealing to Rick the truth about his family, his own life, and the true meaning of Christmas. With skillful storytelling, Dan Walsh creates a Christmas story will have readers remembering every good and perfect gift of Christmas.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Weihnachtsstimmung 16. Dezember 2012
Von rockstarbaby TOP 1000 REZENSENT
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen A heart stir of a Christmas story 29. August 2011
Von Harold Wolf - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Another Walsh Christmas book. More historical drama, but this time in 1980. The same compelling need to read through to the end, which is always a satisfying finale with this author.

"Remembering Christmas" finds Rick Denton consenting to help at his mom & step-dad's basement "Book Nook" located in dying downtown Seabreeze, FL. It's Thanksgiving and holiday sales mean the shop's annual profit margin. CPA Rick helps out of duty & guilt when his detested step-dad gets seriously ill. Little did anyone know how it might evolve, impact his life, others, and force inner-issue confrontations. Homeless equals worthless to Rick; and remembering his abandoning dad simply means his mom did something wrong those many years ago.

It's a modern prodigal parable with those signature Dan Walsh twists. The Book Nook customers "Praise the Lord" even during the economic crisis and volatile world news. Sounds like 2011; not 1980.
What begins as a typical cozy Christmas historical fiction romance suddenly takes the typical Walsh author twist surprising the reader. It caught me blindside (I like that!).

This Christian author offers a literature ministry--but not preachy. His stories (including all 3 previous books) are a blessing. They are life-like; so believable. It's little wonder after reading the Author Note and discovering that certain story parts of Remembering Christmas are nonfiction. His previous title, "The Deepest Waters", was based on a true 1850s adventure. It is superb.

Dan Walsh is a meat-&-potatoes storyteller that can be enjoyed by men and women, any age.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Stirring story year-round 31. August 2011
Von Mary Hake - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
Don't be fooled by the slow development of Dan Walsh's latest novel. The realistic individuals peopling this powerful book work their way into readers' hearts, and they'll soon be caught up in the unfolding drama. Remembering Christmas is a stirring story of love's transforming power, a touching tale for any time of year. As the characters' lives are changed, I believe the readers' will be too.

Rick Denton, a successful accountant, seldom connects with his mom and stepdad back in his old hometown on Florida's coast. When called to help out in their small Christian bookstore after his stepfather's aneurysm Thanksgiving weekend, Rick feels out of his element. His run-in with the unkempt homeless man who hangs out near the Book Nook doesn't help his attitude. But Rick's growing attraction to Andrea, who works at the store, and her daughter, Amy, nibble at his efforts to remain uninvolved. He also struggles with the pain of his father's desertion during his childhood.

Readers will be able to identify with these issues, which mirror modern life in our frenetic world. Remembering Christmas can help us slow down and savor the important things. Enjoy the story and its unexpected twist, but never forget its message.

3.0 von 5 Sternen REMEMBERING THE PAST 8. Oktober 2011
Von Kym McNabney - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Rick Denton's life is turned upside down when his mother calls and asks him to return home after his stepfather suffers from an aneurysm. When it becomes clear his mother needs him to run their little store, the Book Nook, for more than a few days, Rick's reluctant. After all he's a successful accountant and has had little contact with his mother or stepfather.

Running the Book Nook has Rich out of his element. But that's not all he's dealing with. He must deal with a homeless man that shows up at the Book Nook's doorsteps, along with being forced to deal with the pain of his biological father's desertion. As much as Rick would like to remain uninvolved, Andrea who works part-time at the BOOK NOOK, and her daughter Amy, have him doing the opposite.

REMEMBERING CHRISTMAS By Dan Walsh will have those born in the sixty's remembering their younger days. You'll be reminded of TV shows as well as other things from that era in a delightful trip back in time.

Charlie, how would you treat people if you knew you didnt have to fix them? If you knew that was Gods job, and all he was asking of you was show them his love, maybe tell them some things he wanted them to know? "e;

1980. A simpler time. Not nearly as hectic and nowhere near the level of distraction. You could count on having whole conversations with people. No cell phones, laptops, netbooks, or iPads. No internet. Just a handful of channels on TV. Only the folks in Arkansas had ever heard of Walmart. And only one cast of Star Trek to keep track of. "e;
