Kurzbeschreibung

See that car in your rear-view mirror?
The driver wants to kill you.
Don’t take it personally.
You just happen to be in the way.

In Scott Cherney’s new novel, Red Asphalt, the operator of the vehicle in question is a troubled medical courier in a triple threat cage match with his two biggest adversaries-everyday life and himself. His marriage to the woman he believed to be his soul mate is rapidly evaporating before his eyes. The book he’s been working on for over a decade is slipping through his fingers as he struggles to complete it. As these pressures grow, he compensates by conjuring up outrageous road rage scenarios in the multiplex of his mind. As his life, job and dreams simultaneously implode, his wild fantasies begin to literally bleed over into reality. Now with a gun in one hand and a steering wheel in the other, this distant runner-up in the human race feels empowered for the very first time. At least our boy’s finally found a purpose in life.

Fasten Your Seatbelts, It's gonna be a bumpy ride! 29. Dezember 2008

Quoting Bette Davis, as a way to sum up, Scott Cherney's "RED ASHPHALT" would be an understatement, but it is without a doubt spot on! The story of Calvin Wheeler is one that should be required reading for all drivers education courses. Not only is this Magnus 357 Opus one hell of a roadmap of how NOT to drive or operate an car on the roadways of America, but it also serves as a perfect example of how to avoid becoming the Calvin Wheeler who lives inside each and every one of us.

I don't want to go into too many details of the novel, as I think it's too damn good a book to spoil any page of it. This story is great eye candy for the mind, you just cannot get enough of it, there aren't enough pages, and as much as I found myself devouring every page with a joy rarely found in book reading today, I also found myself frustrated that I was coming to the close of reading it.

As a published author and playwright, I can say with hand on heart, without a doubt "Red Asphalt" has been the most fun I have had reading a book. I experienced every emotion the author intended. It not only will leave you laughing, but it will force you to think twice before you flip off that guy who cuts you off in traffic next time.

Mr. Cherney has a talent to me that rivals Stephen King. His characters are not only three dimensional but they are every person you have encountered on the roadmap of your own life and then some! To sum up the reading experience of this gem of literature I would have to say: "Red Asphalt" is witty, edgy and downright relentless in its pursuit to keep the reader engaged!

To close to home.. 8. Februar 2012

Ok, so...where to begin, let me start with..I am Calvin Wheeler. Not so much as I am Calvin, but I have had a few episodes(havent we all). While reading this I flashed back to the holiday shopping "MAGIC" of a few years back, when a haughty self rightous individual stole my parking space after I had been driving around the lot for a good hour.Merry Christmas to MEEE ! Out of my truck and in a flash, I was gonna knock him on his holiday sash, in Santa speak..Lord only know's how it would have turned out had the inconsiderate individual not chosen to hastily roll up his window as I was heading toward's his vehicle with my opinion..Freedom of speech also include's the volume of one's voice..

But enough about me..Mr Cherney's mind peep's are people we can all relate to.Everyday problems,A stress filled commute, to arrive at a stressful mundane job, for a pittance of a paycheck that sometime's leave's alot to be wished for.Although most find way's of coping, there are a few who snap.I found the book to be a real page turner, if nothing else to see what kind of wit would next come out of Calvin/Mr cherney's mouth ( Snails,Salt lick's,old people ,the sky is the limit.)I have been accused of opening my mouth before my brain was in control of it.
I found Mr Cherney's wit to be basically an equal opportunity offender type which I appreciate. In my group of friend's anything goes..

All in all a few typo's, which you will find in about anything, but not enough to be distracting.I found the most distracting for me ,was the geographical errors regarding some of the town's and highway's mentioned in the book..Nothing major, and it really does'nt matter. It would be equivalent to anyone's town/anywhere ,being mentioned that they are familliar with, and having the written dipiction of say the local school on the west side instead of the south side.I have intimate knowledge of the Sierra Nevada foothills and was looking for the accuracy when the town's/highway's were mentioned because I had spent twelve years in the area.

All In all I rate this Five star's,well worth the read...Two thumb's up...Ok I see you have a book titled "Please hold thumb's" so I'll take those back...

Thank you Mr Cherney..Look forward to more..

I truly truly tried to read and like this book, but it was impossible. Even if I could get past all the griping this guy does, the editing makes it a hard read. Starting with chapter 2, it seems every line had a "" beside it which made it just annoying as heck to get through. By page 15 location 162 it was doing it on every line. I just had to stop reading it! Maybe if the author edits and fixes this, I will give it another shot.

And before someone gripes and says that this is supposed to be a review of the book and not that something is wrong with the book, it is a review of a book that was unreadable! Best bet is to get a sample first and see if it reads ok before purchasing. I was lucky and got it when it was offered for free.

EDIT: I just downloaded the sample version on 3/29/12 and it seems to be fixed.
