Kurzbeschreibung

The Microsoft Readiness Reviews series helps people determine if they're ready for the real Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) exam by identifying strengths and weaknesses, and providing information on areas for improvement. "MCSE Readiness Review Exam 70-073 Windows NT 4.0 Workstation" measures abilities to plan for, implement, administer and troubleshoot information systems that incorporate the high-performance desktop operating system. Skills that are assessed include installation and configuration, managing resources, connectivity, and monitoring and optimization. A test delivery engine on CD covers exam objectives by randomly providing dozens of sample questions from a pool of hundreds more, so students can retest themselves with different questions. And all responses both right and wrong result in helpful explanations. A companion book features test preparation suggestions and a list of all questions included in the Readiness Review exam.

I bought this book due to the thorough excellence of it's sister Readines Review Exam 70-067 Windows NT Server 4.0 which together with the Transcenders certainly helped get me through the Server exam. This book on Workstation continues a good concept but perhaps lacks some of the clarity and focus of the server book. Don't whatever you do buy it for the accompanying CD Rom which is a heady mix of some pretty confusing questions together with some noticeably wrong answers. The quality of the CD has knocked my confidence a bit so this time I'm definitly on the trail for another study guide.

Any aspiring MCP knows each Microsoft exam is going to be different. If I had chosen the 30 most important, relevant but not necessarily hardest questions to study, I would have spent a total of 30 minutes studying and passed with a 1000. That was my exam. Instead I studied so much info I was at times confused and barely passed with a 733 of 1000.

So for my particular review on this Readiness book, it was an extremely helpful resource. For those that do not have any other Readiness, it breaks down Objectives by Chapter (Planning, which consists of 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 would be Chapter 1). That makes it easy to use in conjunction with another study guide. (Oh yeah, I DO NOT suggest using only this book alone to pass the exam). At the beginning of each chapter, it suggests terms to know before attempting the questions. At the end of each chapter, it suggests exercises for practice to learn each objective (For example, read a particular article on the Microsoft website or read Chapter 7 in the Tech Support text). The meat of the book is the sample questions, many of which you'd see on the real exam. You can work through the book answering the questions or load the CD in your computer and it will randomly select questions from each objective to simulate the test. NOTE: I did not use the CD with this particular review so check everyone else's reviews on how helpful the CD is.

I didn't use the Transcender Exams,............... and are supposedly exactly like the real exam (Pass Transcender, you're ready to take Microsoft exam). I bought the Readiness review ......... and still passed it. I can only suggest you do the same.

The book is okay as a "flashcard" resource, but not a primary study guide. Its really almost a moot point since the exam is going to be retired, though. If you, like me, are going back to pick up WS just to qualify for the Accelerated Windows 2000 exam, this is okay for a last-minute, quick refresh just before the exam itself. The CD is pathetic...the screen shots resemble the Sylvan exam engine in a very superficial way, but the questions are useless...the answers are wrong more than not. The book's answers are usually at least correct, but there are one or two that aren't correct. I'm waiting to get my "official" score results before I blast MS Press for putting their name on such a shoddy product.

By the way, best single resource, in my opinion for initial material is Sybex.

Book has some merit, CD is garbage
While the book has some merit. It is totally lacking in depth of coverage and explainations that Exam Cram books have. Lesen Sie weiter...

USE THE CD AS A TREE ORNAMENT
I MUST AGREE WITH MANY OTHER READERS THAT THE CD IS RACKED WITH WRONG ANSWERS. I IMPLORE YOU TO SEARCH ELSEWHERE FOR MORE REALISTIC AND CORRECT QUESTIONS. Lesen Sie weiter...
