Second grade is not turning out the way it should for Ramona Quimby. Her dad has lost his job, her mom has found a full-time job, and her big sister Beezus has "reached a difficult age." In her inimitable way, Ramona decides to take charge. She practices TV commercials in hopes of earning a million dollars, but only ends up insulting her teacher and getting into a prickly mess with some burrs. Then she embarks on a campaign to make her father stop smoking. Mr. Quimby manages to hold up under all these strains, but the challenge is on for the whole family to prove their mettle.

Once again, Beverly Cleary proves her own mettle in this touching and hilarious Newbery Honor Book. Beloved author of over two dozen children's books, and recipient of many awards, including another Newbery Honor for Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and a Newbery Medal for Dear Mr. Henshaw, Cleary's instinct for children's jumbled emotions is flawless. Alan Tiegreen's adroit line drawings perfectly complement Cleary's style; it's hard to imagine one without the other. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

5.0 von 5 Sternen Ramona the star! 30. Mai 2000
    Von Ein Kunde
    Format:Taschenbuch
Growing up I loved all of Beverly Cleary's Henry/Ramona books; but the most memorable was "Ramona and Her Father." In this book, the troublesome and highly imaginative Ramona Quimby firmly establishes herself as the star of the series. "Ramona and Her Father" also marks Ms. Cleary's decision to include more "real life" situations into the lives of her characters- Ramona's father loses his job. Ramona's life is turned upside down by her father's unemployment. Her father is cranky and depressed, her mother tired from overwork, and older sister Beezus, the funloving tomboy of the Henry Huggins books, is now a temperamental teenager. The book chronicles Ramona's attempts to deal with this difficult situation, and results are touching and very often hilarious. This is one very funny book! I especially remember laughing out loud while reading about Ramona's fantasy of becoming a TV commericial actor which she believes will end her family's problems. If I had to pick one book from the entire Henry Huggins/Ramona series "Ramona and Her Father" would be the one. Ramona's experiences with a difficult family situation are told with humor and candor. Highly recommended.

Ramona and Her Father is a childrens novel but I would recommend for all ages. This story is about a little girl named Ramona Quimby who is seven years old. She absolutely loves life. Especially her family. One day she comes home so excited because she knows that it is payday for her father. But when her dad comes home he has everything but good news. He lost his job. After this Ramona saw changes in her family she had never experienced before. Her father was grouchy all of the time because he hadn't gotten a job yet. Her mother was worn out from having to work more in order to put food on the table. And her sister Beezus was just mean. Even her cat is in a funny mood. Ramona tries her hardest to make her family happy but it seems to do the opposite. All she wants is for her life to go back to the way it used to be. She knows it never will until her father gets a job. I definetly would recommend reading Ramona and Her Father. Even if you're older, it will take you back to your childood. This is a story that will be remembered for a lifetime.

This book is about Ramona worrying about her father. Her fathersmokes a lot. Her older sister Beezus said, at her school, they saidsmoking makes your lungs black. Her dad made a promised he won't smoke anymore. He got very cranky 'cause he ......well...loves smoking. Ramona was embaressed to go to her her Sunday school play. The play is about baby Jesus being born. She had to be a sheep in the play. Her mom made her a sheep costume made out of Ramona's pajamas. She got the courage to be in the play by some middle grade school girls because she was cute. Ramona told them why she didn't want to go. Then she saw them put on makeup. She asked if they could put makeup on her nose and make the color black. Sheep's noses are black. Ramona was very happy about everything.

Beverly Cleary's books are all insightful, heartfelt and highly readable both for children who are just discovering the joys of chapter books as well as adults who still remember these books as fond memories and old friends. I myself am 26 years old, but when I'm down or sad I'll still grab my battered copy of this book (that I received when I was 9!) and flip through it for a quick giggle and pick-me-up. This entire series, and so many other stories by this remarkable author are truly books that you and your children should share together...I can't wait to share these wonderful characters with my first child!

i have the entire series of Ramona books, simply because my name is Ramona :) I will say though as a student of English literature these books are eonderful for the whole family to read. They deal with probamatic issues faceing families today. It also encourages young people to read more than one book!
