Like most of Iconographix books, this one is basically a series of photos with captions. The photos are excellent and reproduced well. Unfortunately, the captions need some copy editing. Several cars were misidentified, such as a hopper identified as a gondola, a covered hopper called a box car and a yellow and green NWX reefer described as yellow and brown. Also, note that the pronoun for a named railroad is its, NOT their! For example, "The North Western Refrigerator Line Co. painted its cars yellow and green", NOT "painted their cars ....".
Overall a good reference book for model railroaders seeking accuracy and rail fans. Dave R.

Freight Car Photo Archive Review

I found John Kelly's Photo Archive to be an interesting book. The photos featured are primarily from the '50s,'60s and'70s. I would guess that about a third of the photos are in color. It has a good mix of freight car types and is a good source for lettering information. Also included is a section of TOFC in color and a small section of cabooses. Sprinkled in among the photos are advertisements such as match book and time table covers from major "Fallen Flags". All in all, I would say it was well worth the price I paid Amazon for it.
