Kurzbeschreibung

In 2006, a small unavailing university auto racing team began building a racecar that would challenge the best engineering schools in the world. With fewer people and resources than any of the top competitors, the only way they were going to win was to push the limit, go for broke, and hope for more than a little luck.

By the time they got to the racetrack, they knew: In the fog of fierce competition, whether you win or lose, you learn the hardest lessons about engineering, teamwork, friendship, and yourself.

5.0 von 5 Sternen For all young motor sports enthusiasts 31. August 2012

I bought this e-book because my son will be attending a UK university with a Formula Student program.
I avidly read this book which clearly illustrates the kind of passion and drive that is peculiar to engineering students who want the challenge offered by Formula SAE. Even though a lot of the technical aspects were lost on me one can really imagine what it is like to be a member of a Formula SAE team. The book is a lot about technology but it's even more about working together, believing in one's ideas and enjoying the competition. I can't help but recommend this book highly to whoever wants to become a Formula SAE team member. My son read the book straight through without being able to put it down.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An excellent quick read about university reacecar engineering and competition 21. Dezember 2011

My wife received this book in the mail as a gift and before she had a chance to read it I picked it up and was immediately fascinated with a very interesting narration of the experiences of a team of student engineers at Oklahoma University designing and building a formula SAE racecar. The story telling qualities of the author are reminiscient of books by John McPhee who can take an esoteric subject of limited mass appeal and write about the subject in such an engaging manner that it is hard to put down the book. This book is that type of read. The book covers all the aspects of the design and building decisions that had to be made and a recounting of the almost obscene numbers of hours spent and dedication of all the team members required to bring the project to completion in addition to an interesting discussion of the ensuing competition in Detroit Michigan and Southern California. No punches are pulled and the failures as well as the successes are well documented. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the writing style.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Racing Primer 10. Juli 2012

Interesting book about a college racing team run by engineering students...This book is a well written and entertaining diary of the trials and tribulations of the OU racing team...Students on the team are committed to excellence, spending night and day working on their car...The book documents how addictive racing can be, but it also demonstrates the practical value of hands on experience. Racing is a sport that is always in a state of change, and teams are constantly making adjustments to stay competitive. Manufacturers like Honda understand the educational value of racing, and employ many of their young engineers in their racing programs...The prizes in all of the competitions are trophies and footnotes on a resume, but the top teams are dedicated to winning in this amateur sport...Recommend this book to anyone interested in racing, and engineering students with automotive aspirations...Great price for the digital version.

4.0 von 5 Sternen If I'd have known about Formula SAE, I might have gone to college 19. Juli 2013
Von Enes Memic - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This is an interesting look into a little-known form of motorsport: race cars built as school projects by college students. It's also a glimpse into just what kind of obsession racing can become, as Matt Brown details how building and driving the car slowly begins to consume all of his (and his teammates') time and money. Everything falls by the wayside as these students spend up to eighteen hours in the shop in the pursuit of speed.

This is a fun book, and if you're into racing at all, give it a spin. I wish I had known about Formula SAE when I was younger; if I had, I may have gone to school instead of the military. Of course, given how racing devours your time and money and often gives so little back, maybe it's good that I didn't.

I'm not sure why I picked this book up. I pick a lot of books up. Anyway, I have no interest in race cars or engineering. BUT, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's not "great literature", but it is a great story, well told. And I learned a lot.

Good writing voice. Well paced. Well done, Mr Brown. Write another book. :)
