This was my first book by Jill Mansell. It was absolute fun but unfortunately it lacked romance...
I'm a huge fan of authors like Rachel Gibson, Judith McNaught or Susan Elizabeth Phillips and was hoping Jill Mansell would write books similar to them.
Unfortunately that was not the case.

First of all, I don't like it when three or four stories are told in one book.
In this book it was Tilly's and Jack's story - drawn to each other yet afraid to give in to their feelings. Five years ago, Jack lost his true love Rose only days before their wedding. Ever since that moment he's afraid to let anyone get really close to him. Rumour has it, that he has dated and slept with almost every woman in Roxborough, but never are there any feelings involved. So naturally, everything that's said about Jack scares Tilly off but still, temptation is hard to overcome and Jack is definitely tempting....

Then there is Erin's story - Tilly's best friend. Erin is in love with Fergus but their relationship is anything but easy. Fergus left his wife Stella six months ago but Stella doesn't want to accept that. So when she finds out about Erin and Fergus she's set on destroying their new found happiness. But then Stella finds out that she has cancer and strangely enough it is Erin who's helping her through the last days of her life....

It is also the story about Max Dineen - the man Tilly is working for - and his daughter Lou.
And about Kaye - Max' ex-wife.

Though every single character in this book is great in its own way I think there are simply too many people involved. You have no chance to really get to know them all...

Sad was also, that Mansell never told the story from Jack's point of view.

Just ok 9. Mai 2010
Von Cheryl Koch - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Tilly Cole has a bad track record of failed relationships. The thing is that they are Tilly's fault. When she doesn't want to be with a guy any longer, she pushes them away until they break up with her. After her latest break up, Tilly packs up and moves away. She gets a job as a Girl Friday.

Jack Lucas is the most desirable man. All the ladies want him. Luckily for Tilly, Jack wants her.

Rumor Has It is the fifth book I have read by Ms. Mansell. While, I liked the light-hearted, jolly tone of this book, it wasn't one of my favorites. Though, I can say that I still plan to read more of Jill Mansell's novels as I enjoy them. They are a nice break from the dark, serious, suspense/thriller books I read.

The thing I didn't really care for in this book was all the different characters and story lines there seemed to be. Every character was a main character versus some being secondary. I don't mind many characters but they all came at me really fast. I didn't get much time to get to know them better before they were introduced to me. Rumor Has It that if you like chick lit books and are looking for a summer read, then you might just like this book.

An fun easy read 5. Mai 2010

I've just recently discovered the writing of Jill Mansell and even though some of her books are harder to get here in the states she's worth the wait to have them shipped from England if you have to. Rumor Has It is no exception; fun, quirky characters make this book a quick can't miss hit.

Tilly Cole has just been left by her boyfriend but she's not all that disappointed because she's been trying to get him to break it off for awhile. A previous breakup has made her afraid to end it with men so she usually acts in a way that will guarantee an end of the relationship by her boyfriend. Not having any attachments she impulsively finds a job in the small town her best friend lives in and moves in with her new employer. Her new job as a "girl Friday" which basically means she takes care of her employer's daughter, cooks dinner and does odd jobs allows her to meet the town heartthrob Jack Lucas. She is warned by everyone she knows in town to stay away from Jack because of his reputation for sleeping with all of the women in town and Tilly's resolved to remain friends with him and resist his romantic advances.

If you've read Jill Mansell before then you know there is always lots and lots of interesting subplots in each book that can sometimes be more engrossing than the main plots. This book has Erin, Tilly's best friend and her many speed bumps in the road to love. I won't go into detail but dating a man who is separated from his wife is no easy task for Erin.

I love the easy style in which Mansell writes. Her books are always quite long (300+ pages which is a lot for chick lit) but they never seem to take long to read. I always find myself having a hard time putting the books down when it is time to go to bed, which to me is a the measure of a good book. Generally speaking I don't like books where there are more than one plot going on but for some reason I don't have a problem with it when reading Jill's books. She writes characters that I would like to be friends with and that is why her books are so fun to read.

This is such a Hoot! 15. April 2010
Von Theresa M. Studer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I am going to say right off the bat that I really could never get into Chick Lit, that is until now. This is the most hilarious story with that off the wall pure British comedy that will make you chuckle from page one to the end. This author has certainly shown me that light and fluff with a great storyline, a few important messages and some just down and out comedy is what you need every now and then. OMG, I'm still chuckling. I am so going to have to check out the rest of this author's line of books.

Rumor Has It is about Tilly who being dumped by her live in boyfriend ends up taking a live in position as a Girl Friday. Her boss is a hunka hunka but low and behold he is gay. Oh well, not the end of the world for Tilly as she's not looking really and there are plenty of fish in the ocean.

Along comes Jack Lucas. Tall, dark, oozing with sexual charm that draws you in like bees to honey. Oh baby is he hot. So hot in fact that he is known about town by every female old enough to have her hormones in working order.

Tilly is warned by everyone to stay away from Jack as he would only break her heart and chalk her up as another notch on his bedpost. Thank goodness Tilly has the strength of Hercules in the will department. Ahhh, but who says that even that will protect her in the end. Will she give in or will Jack break her heart into millions of shattering pieces.

The author has done a fabulous job above and beyond anything I would have ever expected. I love the sense of humor, the solid storyline with it's hidden messages that are a strong reminder to one and all. The play of emotions is outstanding and oh gee I just don't know what more to say without giving it all away. Guess you'll have to read for yourself and see what a hoot this book truly is.

Drug on, then rushed ending 1. Januar 2014
Von LondonDreaming - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

The book drug on and on, but then it felt like when Mansell decided to end it she just dropped an ending right in without much thought or anything else. It just felt all off. I liked Tilly and Jack, but most of the other characters I could have done without (especially Stella). They felt like just fluff, just something trying to make the book longer.

Rumors can hurt people or make them appear to be something they are not. It is hard to find your one true love when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy.

Tilly Cole's live-in boyfriend just abruptly moved out, leaving her a farewell note on the fireplace mantle. Ready for a change, she impulsively applies for a Girl Friday job in a small town, where her best friend Erin lives. Tilly gets the job, and quickly moves into the house of Max, a divorced gay father, and his daughter, Louisa. Tilly finds Max's friend Jack desirable and quickly forms a friendship with him. She craves more but is afraid to get too close to Jack. She's heard the rumors in town and is not about to be another notch in his bedpost.

Erin owns a small resale boutique and is in a happy place in her life. She is dating a wonderful man named Fergus, who recently separated from his wife Stella. Things start to go awry when Stella finds out and begins to cause havoc for Erin. Stella didn't want a divorce, she wanted a baby. She finds Erin's man-stealing ways appalling and will do anything to make sure everyone in the town knows.

Jack Lucas lost his fiance' in a freak accident a few years ago. Now, he plays the field without any attachments. Jack doesn't speak about his relationships ever. He's well-known as the town's playboy. But Jack has it bad for Tilly, and believes it is the real thing. He hasn't felt this way about anyone since his late fiance', but getting Tilly to believe his feelings are real and sincere will be a challenge.

Max's ex-wife Kaye, who went to Hollywood to become an actress, has an unfortunate episode that gets public acclaim. Ruined, she goes back to stay with Max and her daughter until she can figure out what she wants to do with the rest of her life. But a fan is stalking her across the ocean, and she doesn't feel quite safe.

There is a large cast of characters in RUMOR HAS IT that inter-connect to make the story more intimate to the reader. The characters are wonderfully written in Jill Mansell's sleek and sexy style that won't disappoint! The pages flow seamlessly as you find yourself taking a ride with all the glitz, glamour, and secrets of these marvelous characters all with the same goal; to find true love.
