Dieses Buch ist für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene ein echter Gewinn. Die Arbeitsweisen sind sehr gut beschrieben. Bei den einzelnen Objekten sind die benötigten Stoffe und derren Mengenbedarf aufgeführt. Natürlich fehlen auch die Lagepläne nicht. Für "Alte Hasen" sind die Quilts ein echter Genuß. Und das beste ist die CD-ROM. Damit lassen sich die Vorlagen umgehend ausdrucken - und es kann los gehen. Ich kann dieses Buch - trotz einer bereichts gut ausgestatteten Quiltbibliothek - nur empfehlen.

Habe mittels diesem Buch meinen ersten Paper Piecing Wandbehang erstellt. Überhaupt ist es erst das 3. Objekt und auch bei mittleren Englischkenntnissen ist ein absolut perfektes Ergebnis garantiert. Die beiliegende CD ist natürlich das Beste, kein lästiges Kopieren, einfach an den PC und ausdrucken. Bin froh, mich zu diesem Buch entschlossen zu haben.

nice book, but not what i hoped for

i ordered this book based on the cover photo and the subtitle, 'perfect paper piecing.' i expected techniques for using, creating, or adapting patterns for paper foundation piecing--how to determine the order of piecing when creating your own foundations, what changes to make in traditional blocks, if any, for foundation piecing, that sort of thing.
instead, this is a book of quilt patterns designed by the authors that are paper pieced. there is a short introductory section on the authors' method of paper piecing, along with very brief suggestions about color, threads and quilting. no quilting patterns are included. although the paper piecers i know or i have read recommend smaller needles for piercing the paper, the authors of this book list larger needles in the one paragraph that mentions them. their instructions for removing the foundations seem to suggest doing so before fully assembling the quilt top, another departure from most of what i have read or been told. they do not suggest removing paper from one side of a seam to cut down on layers, or dampening the paper for easier removal.
the patterns are contemporary, lively, and mostly attractive. there are a couple of patterns i would consider making, so i will probably keep the book, though i am still debating that. the quilts i really like, however, are in the gallery section and i haven't checked the cd-rom to see if the patterns for those quilts are included because the cd is in a sealed envelope that would have to be removed for use and i doubt amazon would refund the purchase price if i opened the envelope.
at least one of the projects shows a lack of precision in matching points and seams that is surprising in a paper pieced design--one of the purposes of paper piecing is precision in matching points.
i would not recommend this book to someone who has not already done foundation piecing, since it contains a limited amount of advice. i would recommend any of carol doak's books on paper piecing, since they address the technique more thoroughly.

Don't buy it for the front cover pattern!

I bought this book because I liked the pattern featured on the front cover [it's also featured on the back cover, the front cover of the CD, as well as the back cover of the CD] but while the authors or publishers were fond enough of that quilt to use it four times to encourage sales they did not include the pattern in the book or CD. Sure enough, there ARE other patterns included, just not that one.
This is just dishonest.
I felt strongly enough about this subject to write letters to the publishers and the authors. This type of unethical behaviour should not be rewarded with book sales. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be a "one time mistake" with the publisher, American Quilting Society - the summer issue of "American Quilter" features a beautiful blue and yellow paper pieced quilt on the cover but you're wasting your time and money if you actually expect to find that pattern included in the magazine.
I buy pattern books and magazines for the PATTERNS - if the book is not going to include the patterns shown it rather defeats the purpose for me.

Nothing new . . . or for the inexperienced paper piecer . .

I was also a bit disappointed with this book. The patterns are nice and not difficult if you already have some experience with paper piecing; however, I expected some new or different technique. There is nothing new in this book. And, additionally, the authors never provide ANY information about the different types of foundations that can be used nor what type they prefer or routinely use. For a book specifically about paper piecing, I found this a serious omission. If you're looking to add pattern books to your collection, this book is okay; if you're looking to learn something new, look elsewhere.
