You don't usually meet interesting people at an airport. And even if you do, they're unlikely to invite you to join them in first class. But that's what happens to Claire, the country girl from Idaho. Her new friend from the airport even asks her to come see him in his native Estonia, a small European country that Claire has never heard of. Together with her witty grandfather, she gets to spend an unforgettable holiday far away from home. Too bad the Estonian military decides to stage a coup...

Mehr über den Autor

I'm an amateur novelist and a proud native Central & Western European. Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a Central & Western European flag or a Central & Western European national anthem, otherwise I'm sure I would be a flag-waving patriot!

I live in a region that is predominantly Catholic and very conservative.

However, people here are open-minded and welcome immigrants and expats in their midst, which is not surprising because this whole immigration thing has been going on for about 2000 years now. The locals are descendants of ancient Roman soldiers, which means that they have a temper, they can be grumpy, overly dramatic, hilariously cheerful and absolutely passionate. All at the same time.

I drive a locally engineered car and drink locally brewed beer. I struggle with the local dialect even though I have a talent for languages.

The first book I wrote was Plateau Rebels.

It's the only one that sells, and it only sells in Germany. I think I know why: the story has a strong emphasis on Native American issues. Historically, there's been a strong interest in this subject in Germany for some two hundred years now. Or maybe the book is selling because the cover is so nice?

A friend told me that she can't read my books because they're written in French. I thought that was outrageously funny, because a) they're written in English and German, and b) I wish I was able to write a novel in French. I'm not.

I'm also selling the sequel to Plateau Rebels (English version) and Plateau (German version) on Amazon: They're called Queen of Estonia (English version) and Coup (German version).

The novel I'm working on right now is a prequel to these two novels. It has a complicated plot, the action is happening in Europe, the States, Afghanistan and Iraq. I enjoy writing it so much that I don't really want it to stop. Maybe I'll never finish it...

This is second book in the Expats series, the first was Plateau Rebels. It really helps if you have read this book before starting Queen of Estonia. The characters and their actions and also the references to the movie will make much more sense. And it's also a good read.
In this book we follow what happens with Claire and see what can happen to you when you engage in idle, friendly chitchat in an airport waiting area. I've spent a lot of time in these and have never met anyone like Ivar and his compatriots. *sigh* So basically Claire makes some friends, parts company with them when she gets to the US, they go home to Estonia and then they call and her to visit them. And then things get really interesting! I don't want to retell the whole story since the book isn't that long.
Read it yourself, it's funny, touching, thrilling and suspenseful by turns. My only complaint is that it was not long enough, and the ending!! Ms. Leclercq, how could you leave us hanging like that!
I'm looking forward to Marina's story.
