Kurzbeschreibung

In Detail

QlikView is a powerful business intelligence and data discovery platform that allows people to quickly develop relevant data visualization applications for business users. The relative ease of QlikView development—including backend scripting—allows applications to be developed rapidly, and allows for more collaboration in application development for business users.

A comprehensive guide that offers QlikView developers a rich discussion of scripting topics, from basic to advanced concepts, features, and functions in a compact mini-book format. This book allows developers to quickly gain confidence in understanding and expanding their QlikView scripting knowledge, and serves as a springboard for even more advanced topics in QlikView scripting.

The book starts off by covering basic topics such as connecting to data sources, scripting, dealing with load statements, data transformations, and the concepts of the basic data model. It then dives into advanced concepts such as advanced scripting and data model optimization, the creation and use of QlikView datafiles, debugging, and essential functions and features. It also provides layout tips for developers. Qlikview Scripting is a great overview and reference guide for beginner to intermediate Qlikview developers.

Approach

This mini book offers information about QlikView scripting written in an easy-to-understand manner, and covers QlikView scripting from basic to advanced features in a compact format.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Redundant, inferior to "QlikView 11 for Developers" 21. Dezember 2013
Von Dimitri Shvorob - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I feel a clarification is needed. In QlikView world, "scripting" means loading and transforming data. It's not "advanced stuff", but a necessary step in any QlikView development project, including data handling and GUI design. Also, this is a step which remains in the background as far as a QlikView document user is concerned. It is thus odd to see reviews saying something like "I needed a quick introduction to QlikView, so I got this book" - you would expect an introduction to focus on the front-end, not the back-end.

Packt has scored a hit with what is now the must-have QlikView reference, "QlikView 11 for Developers" by Harmsen and Garcia, then followed it up with the thin books by Stephen Redmond, Matt Floyd, Diane Blackwood and Karl Pover. Among these, only Stephen Redmond's "QlikView for Developers Cookbook" gets my endorsement; the others make me wonder "Why would you get this sketchy brochure if you are also going to get - as you have to - HG?" Now, Karl Pover's book was about QV visual design and could be "forgiven" as a beginner-friendly demo - but Matt Floyd writes about scripting... and offers zero value-added. A disappointing low-effort book and a super-easy "pass".

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great intro to scripting for beginners and intermediate developers 27. Dezember 2013
Von Mary75 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I found this book helpful to get into Qlikview scripting. As a new business analyst, I need a focused text on scripting Qlikview applications, and this is a great addition to my library. As the book description says, this is a short book devoted to beginning and intermediate Qlikview scripting. It's not geared to advanced users, and I don't think it's supposed to be. My company will be using it as a teaching aid to project managers and business intelligence practitioners as well.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good starting point for Qlikview scripting 18. Dezember 2013
Von Roberto Capancioni - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This book is a very basic introduction to data loading from flat files or database.
I'd have liked to find something about functions, subroutines, variables etc. but there is nothing about that.
Anyway the arguments are clear and the book can be a good starting point for Qlikview scripting.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Save your money and skip buying this one... 19. Dezember 2013
Von dwarch - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This book is just over 100 pages, so a very small book. In no way does it provide comprehensive coverage of Qlikview scripting. The author introduces concepts, and then in the majority of them, does not show an example of why or how to use them. This happens throughout the book. In addition, a good chunk of the book is a just a definitions of terms, that you can get by looking at the Qlikview help. For a 100+ page book, this is not acceptable. The coverage of actual techniques of scripting is minimal.

In summary, a waste of money.

Buy the Qlikview for Developers book if you want to learn Qlikview, certainly worlds better for learning scripting.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent Introduction to QlikView scripting 24. Dezember 2013
Von Shilpan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Unlike other data discovery tools, QlikView is unique as it offers built-in ETL and powerful scripting engine. This book is an excellent resource for beginners who want to learn what QlikView scripting has to offer.

The book covers gamut of scripting topics such as data modeling best practices, synthetic keys, loops, QVDs and even advance topics such as incremental data load.

I enjoyed reading it and believe that it is a good reference book for novice and experienced QlikView programmers alike;
