The book "Q & A" written by Vikaas Swarup tells the story of a young menw ho lives in a chawl and crosses the Dividing Line between the rich and the poor by winning a Quiz-Show. I think the novel is beautifully written, therefore you can understand the main story very well. Vikas Swarup Brings various stories in one story together. I like this idea beacause you get to know the most important facts in some different stories and you have also a thread of the main story. Besides I think that the story is interesting to read. In comparison with the book the film has some stories whitch also come up in the book but the frame story is different.Because I knew the film before my final opinion is that the film and the book are in perfect harmony with each other. All in all I recommend the book and the film as there are many aspects in there for example love, action an suspense. It is very well made.

In the following text I review the novel "Q&A", written by Vikas Swarup, which was published in 2005. The book is about how the 18- year- old Ram won the Quizshow W3B. Vikas Swarup is an indian diplomat and writer and "Q&A" is his first work of fiction. The novel is translated in over 30 languages. In addition to the book in year 2008 the film of "Q&A", "Slumdog Millionaire", was published. This film got 8 Oscars. The book is divided into 12 episodes which tells the reader about parts of Ram Mohamad Thomas' life. In these chapters is told why Ram know each question from the show. There are also important decisions for Rams life in. The story is structured, so that a woman asks why Ram could have won and he answers with this little stories to explain his knowledge. Consequently the difficult life of Ram is shown to the reader. So the reader gets to know how Ram got a best friend, how humans are mistreated in India, something about a dying out filmstar, how children have to beg in India and how Ram got in love with a prostitute. What means excerpts of the whole childhood of Ram take part in the novel. In my opinion I would recommend the novel because it is very suspenseful to read about the difficult, for an European, shocking, life of Ram. Also it is nice how Ram looks on his own life because it takes the reader to think about his in my case good life, although Ram tells his experiences very calm and emotionless like in a newspaper article. Maybe I wouldn't have read the book if I hadn't have to read it in my English lessons, but I think the book is also a nice pastime. Furthermore it is very easy to understand everything of the storyline. So all in all I just can recommend "Q&A" to you.

In the book "Q & A", written in 2005, Vikas Swarup, an Indian diplomat and writer who became famous with "Q & A", describes the rise of an poor Indian Slumdog, who works as a servant, to a Billionaire. Three years later the film Slumdog Millionaire, which is based on the book, was released and won multiple Oscars. The Story is about Ram Mohammad Thomas who won a billion Rupees in the quiz show "Who Will Win a Billion", but the police suspect him of cheating and arrest him. In the following 12 background memories Ram reports his lawyer stories of his life and how he could answer the questions by remembering seemly insignificant facts. Additionaly Vikas Swarup gives the reader an insight in Indian everyday life. The book is interesting written and shows the problems of India in an exciting way. By pre-drawing the end of the story to the first chapter Vikas Swarup created a lot of suspense because the reader wants to know how Ram made it to such a success and fame. The only aspect I would like to criticize is the lenght of the book but this depends on how much you like reading. In my opinion it's worth reading the novel but I would also like to recommend the film Slumdog Millionaire for those of you who don't like to read the whole book.

In Q & A, which was written by the Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup, Ram Mohammed Thomas tells the story of his quite unusual life, which is filled with many fateful moments, to prove his right to the top prize of the TV quiz show "Who Will Win a Billion". Ram Mohammed Thomas participated in an Indian TV quiz show, "Who Will Win a Billion ?" and despite being an uneducated waiter, he became the first contestant, who answer all twelve questions correctly. At the beginning of the book Ram is arrested, because the producers are convinced that he must have cheated. Moreover they can not pay up the top prize. Ram's lawyer, who also has a certain role in his stories, wants to protect and prove his innocence . By telling his episodes of his life Ram also explain how he came to know all the answers of the quiz show. Although Ram's stories are very interesting, exciting and sometimes also unpredictable I often could not believe that someone, who is just 18 and a "normal" waiter, had already seen and made things, which a "normal" 18 year old guy usually never will see or make. The novel is well written and normally I like books with this kind of framing device, but in my opinion it often fells like, that Vikas Swarup first write the frame story and then thought how he could include more or less logical episodes of Ram's life, which explain how he could answer all the questions. Indeed the end is not too unlogical and you can also find some very good logic interconnections between all stories, but all in all I am convinced that there are too many fortuities. Or should I call it "destiny" or something like that... Finally I can recommend the book to all, who just want to read something, that is not too realistic and demanding.

A young poor Indian boy wins one billion rupees, the largest jackpot in television history. What sounds like the conclusion of a modern Indian fairytale is actually the debut novel of the Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup. The story is an unique trip through modern India and a colorful description of the many faces of this giant country ranging from dirty streets of the slums up to the glamour of the legendary Bollywood film industry. Having been published in 2005 already the book is a real bestseller and also inspired the critically acclaimed 2008 film "Slumdog millionaire" by Simon Beaufoy. Ram Mohamed Thomas, a street child from India, participates in a new Q&A television quiz show featuring a prize of one billion rupees for the one who can answer 12 increasingly difficult questions. As the first candidate of the show Ram actually answers all the questions and wins the largest jackpot ever seen in a television show. Being unable to pay the reward the
production company convinces the police that Ram is guilty of cheating in the show. Only a young lawyer is able to help Ram to claim his rightfully won money, so he has to reveal how he was able to answer all the questions. What follows is a collection of little stories of his life each of which contributes the answer to one of the questions. Vikas Swarup serves the reader a curry of different impressions and fragments from India, that's spicy most of the time and combines many different tastes of this diverse piece of our planet. While the book has the simple moral of a fairytale where the good always defeat the evil in the end it still provides a lot of interesting impressions from a country that is even more colorful than the book itself. Everybody who feels adventurous enough to take an exciting trip to the subcontinent right from the comfort of his sofa should definitely give Q&A a try.

I read the novel Q&A written by the Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup after watching "Slumdog Millionaire". That film is based on Swarups novel so I expected the same story as the one in the film but I was really surprised reading something different. In my opinion, there isn't as much suspense as in the movie but I liked the novel as well especially certain twists of the plot. The protagonist is a poor young person from India who takes part in a quiz show which seems to be the Indian version of the popular show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire". His name is Ram Mohammad Thomas, a combination of the Hinduism god Ram, the Muslim prophet Mohammad and the Christian apostle Thomas. When I read the subtitle, which is also the first sentence in the novel, I became confused because we all know that nobody gets arrested for winning a quiz show. In the chapters of the book, the reader gets to know some stories from Rams young life and in each of that stories is one detail hidden that betrays him the answer for one of the twelve questions. I liked the book because it shows the injustice in parts of India and there's also very much tension in the book. You take a look in Indias daily life which is sometimes very hard and not compareable to life in Europe. You see as well that India still has to progress to get a new developed country. I think the book describes reality in India's daily life because it's written by an Indian author.
