"Putting on the Brakes Activity Book for Kids with ADD or ADHD" is an expanded and updated edition of APA's classic, best-selling workbook. The activities are comprehensive and cover practically every area in a kid's life that AD/HD can affect: school (homework, test-taking, planning for projects, time management, making friends, proofreading, etc.); home (organizing, taking medication, doing things step-by-step); behavior and emotion control/regulation (anger management, conflict resolution, learning from mistakes, relaxation techniques, etc.); health and nutrition (healthy foods, exercise, getting outside/green space, etc.); and, self-awareness/self-esteem (strengths & weaknesses, making friends, etc.).All of this information is presented to kids in fun, engaging activities that challenge their skills and empower them to strive to be their best. New activities include 'Exercise Can Be Fun!', 'Your Exercise Log', 'Finding Your Green Space', 'Recognizing Anger's Warning Signs', 'Avoiding What Makes You Angry', 'Organizing Your Writing', and 'Practice Outlining'. Exercises from the original book have been updated to reflect new technological advancements (i.e., computers/PDAs).

This book is packed with useful and empowering lessons/skills kids can apply to and implement in their daily lives. It shows kids all of the ways they can take control of their AD/HD - the Activity Book teaches them that they have choices that can immensely improve their everyday life.

I'm a child therapist that specializes working with AD/HD kids, and this is a must have working with kids with AD/HD, or parenting a child with AD/HD. Instead of simply reading about AD/HD, kids are able to do activities learning about and learning to take responsibility for their AD/HD.

I purchased the book for the child of a close friend of mine. This book is helping her understand her feelings as well as specific challenges she faces because of her ADHD. I recommend this book to every child with ADHD. The book is designed in a very child friendly way.

Activities are good if you have a somewhat creative child. My child is not completly great with using the book but he was able to learn about being ADHD. We sat down and read parts of the book together. My son is 6 and most of the book was way ahead of his age. I would reccomend for a preteen.

I purchased this to use with my 11-year old granddaughter. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get her to work with it because of her . . . . "attitude"? But it turns out she loves this workbook, it gives her a chance to say what SHE feels and she was surprised that I got it for her and that I actually cared! So I am recommending that everyone try it.

I'm a postdoc working with middle schoolers two days a week, and this far they have all responded well to this workbook; a rarity in our field.
