Kurzbeschreibung

Psychology and the Internet provides the first resource to examine how using the Internet affects our definition of who we are and our communication and work patterns. It also examines how normal behavior differs from the pathologic with respect to Internet use. The book contains three sections: the first covers the "self" in relation to the Internet. The second explores how the Internet is used to meet new friends and love interests, as well as to conduct business, and the final section looks into the philosophical ramifications of Net use and our definitions of self, reality, and work.

Format:Taschenbuch
Gackenbach's book includes a good compilation of varying articles. Nearly every aspect of communication on/in the net is mentioned. Although the psychological statements aren't the most qualified ones, it is a good book for an "over all" study concerning themes of the net. Even if the articles might not be as informative as wishable, the studies itself open new perspectives and aspects of psychological science dealing with net and personality. Good guide for beginning observations on the net. The English version is not useful for people who don't regularly deal with the language.

The Book is a collection of articles of varying quality. Most presented findings seem trivial and/or are too old to be relevant. Some intersting URLs can be found, though, which gives inspiration for further research.
