Kurzbeschreibung

Managers have become skilled at juggling changing priorities. What is different is that customer expectations have changed. People expect shops to be open earlier and later, to get answers on line 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and appointments outside of normal working hours. At the same time there is huge pressure to reduce operating costs, staff numbers and to do more with less.

Many traditional project management approaches are about attempting to limit change to 'keep the project on track'. This is fundamentally the wrong approach. If something needs to change with a project it should or you risk project failure.
There is no simple solution - but the ideas set out here draw on the approach of some of the most successful companies in the private sector and can really help deliver change which is sustainable, affordable and valued by customers and stakeholders.

Dr Penny Pullan, Director of Making Projects Work Ltd, said "Most of us who manage projects nowadays find ourselves operating in an environment of continual change. Our projects are full of uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. So what can we do? What is the answer? How can we make things work? I think that this short book gives a big part of the answer. Tony draws on Lean and Agile to bring together the most useful ideas into a practical guide for project managers, whatever their field. Tony taps into his deep experience of running projects and programmes from both private and public sectors to come up with a very readable book, free from the jargon and buzzwords often found elsewhere."

Mehr über den Autor

Tony Riches has a BA Degree in Psychology and an MBA from Cardiff University. He is a full time writer and lives with his wife in Pembrokeshire, one of the most unspoilt areas of the UK. His first novel, 'Queen Sacrifice' was written after looking into the early history of Wales and seeing the parallels to a game of chess, with kings and queens, bishops and castles - and the people becoming pawns in their civil wars.

An interest in space exploration going back to witnessing the Apollo landings as a child led to the writing of Atlantis - The Final Space Shuttle Mission and development of the NASA Latest blog, which has only been possible through the generous support of the NASA media team.

Before becoming a writer he was Head of Cardiff Harbour Authority and supported the Captain Scott Society with exhibitions on the departure of Scott's ship the Terra Nova from Cardiff Docks in 1910. He has since researched and written Terra Nova: Antarctic Voyager with support from the Glamorgan Archives and Captain Scott's granddaughter, Dafila Scott.

When not writing Tony enjoys sea and river kayaking and run a specialist blog Kayak Journeys about some of his kayaking adventures. He also enjoys hiking and plans to complete the full 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast path which passes fifty-eight beautiful beaches and fourteen harbours.

Other interests include music and art. He has a blog called The Awakening Conscience where he occasionally writes about Ruskin and the PRB.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A useful primer on Agile methodology 7. Oktober 2012

I was looking for a quick overview of Agile from a project manager's perspective (rather than from a team member's view). This book fit the bill. If you're already managing projects and your company is moving to an Agile methodology, this book would be a useful place to start.

Its not very detail about Agile but gives you a rough idea about it. It is definitely good for its price I must say.

Nothing new in this book. It generalizes current practices of Agile that you can gather off the internet for free.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Definitely Worth A Read 14. November 2012
Von Max Felker - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
This book was short and a relatively easy read. The author did a good job at laying out some simple, yet effective tenets of project management. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into the field, whether it be actual software team managing or just a general project management position.

I gave this a 4 start because most of the time, this book was great. A few times, I felt like he was going off course but it was not detrimental to the reading experience as a whole. All in all, a good one. Read it!
4.0 von 5 Sternen A little dry 20. November 2013

A little dry on the reading. Have to make yourself continue. I had purchased this for work and had to keep myself on task.
