Kurzbeschreibung

You are about to discover the profoundly simple yet shockingly effective accounting plug-in that will transform your business from a cash eating monster into a money making machine. In Profit First, Mike Michalowicz, author of The Pumpkin Plan & The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur, explains why the GAAP accounting method is contrary to human nature, trapping entrepreneurs in the panic-driven cycle of operating check-to-check and reveals why this new method is the easiest and smartest way to ensure your business becomes wildly (and permanently) profitable from your very next deposit forward.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Denial ain't just a river in Egypt! 8. Juli 2014
Von Jason Spencer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
This is one of those warm-and-fuzzy feel good books. Why? Because once you understand the concepts and core principles of Profit First, you realize that perhaps you weren't doing it right. Then you realize that from this very moment forward (or at least the moment you finish Chapter 4 - "Choose Your Own Adventure") that you most certainly can attain financial freedom. You'll stop working like a slave to your business, and you'll feel better working with your customers.

I actually picked up the hardback version first (because I love making notes) and then got turned onto the Audible.com version, which is narrated by and includes extra commentary by the author, Mike Michalowicz. If you've never heard Mike speak, he has tremendous energy and sincerity that meshes quite well with his own brand of humor. It can be useful to follow along while he reads, making notes along the way. I did the same with one of his other books, The Pumpkin Plan: A Simple Strategy to Grow a Remarkable Business in Any Field.

Following Mike for the past three years, I've known about the Profit First system for a while. I implemented a half-arse version of it late last year, surprising with success. Why? Because I (unknowingly) used the concept of 'removing temptation' by keeping my Profit account hidden from my other accounts. I can't lie, I have some bias (and love) for Profit First because it worked. I also befriended Mike over a beer on the rooftop of the CreativeLive San Francisco studio, which in turn led to me being able to preview this book.

Why am I telling you this? Simple. Three months ago I learned the other pieces of the jigsaw puzzle while reading it. I put Profit First to work for real, and I've seen nothing but positives in my business and personal finances (yes, it works there too - and is discussed in the latter part of the book). For the first time in five years, I made a quarterly tax payment, on time. And I did it without sweating bullets, crapping my pants, and trying to figure out where the money would come from. Thanks to Profit First, I already had that money set aside - again in a hidden account that I only need to access four times a year. Then I took my profit distribution, and I bought myself something nice. Meanwhile, my business kept on doing what it does best.

Look, I could go on forever telling you what rocks about this book. And no, it's not Def Leppard (that's The Pumpkin Plan), but that's about the only thing missing. Grab whatever your flavor - sexy hardback, cyber Kindle, or soothing Audible - just make sure you grab it. This book will make you profitable, which will grow your business, which will ultimately make you happy and be able to answer the question "How healthy is your business?" with a wide, toothy grin from ear-to-ear on your face.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Pay yourself first! 10. Juli 2014
Von Jane Morris - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I read this book because I was needing a little boost in confidence that I can have financial freedom! Having only read Dick Levin's Buy Low, Sell High, Collect Early and Pay Late: The Manager's Guide to Financial Survival in undergrad, I had sort of lost faith in the idea that "Cash is King", but those wise words are ringing in my head again thanks to Mike!

Without coming off as a "get rich quick" book, this inspirational and easy read spells out how a healthy business is just like a healthy lifestyle. From not biting off more than you can chew... serving yourself good stuff first (as in veggies or profit)... hiding temptations like keeping your profit account out of sight... to enforcing a steady regime like bill pay schedule or regular meals. It all makes so much sense!

5.0 von 5 Sternen but even better Mike will be back again at CL for Profit ... 8. Juli 2014
Von Debbie Horovitch - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I couldn't review this book any other way than positively... especially since I've been involved in one way or another for the entire process of creating the book from concept testing - I read earlier articles about Profit First in the Wall Street Journal and on Mike's blog, in his 2nd book The Pumpkin Plan, and was there in the CreativeLive studios when the concept literally exploded in the brains of hundreds (or possibly thousands) of live, online business owners participating in the 2-day live Pumpkin Plan Workshop recording. (It's still available for purchase, but even better Mike will be back again at CL for Profit First in August!).

When I started my business 5 years ago, I spent A LOT of money on business books about how to be a consultant, how to launch a startup, how to run a green business, how to become your business brand... and most of them are still unread because they're just too much information and overwhelming even to read.

I can honestly say I don't think I bought ANY books on small business accounting or how to be profitable... I just believed the rule of thumb (that may have been true at the time but isn't anymore) - plan on 3-5 years before your startup business is profitable.

So for my accounting, I just did the best I could, and tried to make sure I could pay my bills when business was lean, and was able to spend more when my business was flush, happily tricking myself into believing I was running a "profitable", healthy business, that from the outside looked like it was growing. But I was in denial.

Most of the time, when people are in denial about something so sensitive as their business or money, the process of resolving the irrational fears and embracing REALITY is a personal process that can be extremely painful (impacting personal lives), and takes a long time to rehabilitate both the business and owner, to get to the good times.

The good thing about Profit First is that it's like the first time you visit the pain-free dentist and he really IS!

When you read this book, you'll see that becoming permanently profitable in business is as simple and easy as making the change in your brain to manage your business and $$ allocations by taking your profit FIRST, and budgeting for expenses LAST, after you've already allocated salaries & taxes.

Mike delivers the message in an easy to read, entertaining way, with lots of personal stories shared (including my own, about the moment I realized I'd been fooling myself all these years, a slave to my business). Within just a few hours of reading, I am sure you'll have the entire simple concept and system and be ready to become profitable today!

I sincerely hope you'll pick up a copy for yourself and one for every entrepreneur (and accountant!) who you care about.

Mike Michalowicz’s has got it right – Cash is the Life Blood of every business!
As I read just the Introduction and Chapter 1 of Profit First I knew Michalowicz was on to something very profound. If you were watching me read the Intro you would have seen several open handed slaps to my forehead. By the end of chapter 5 I knew I had something in my hands that could work wonders in helping us help our small business clients to finally build healthy businesses.

I’ve been signing the Cash Is King song for years now, trying to convince and educate entrepreneurs on this truth along the way. But here’s the problem, I’m a CPA geek (without the pencil neck), and I totally get GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and how to use GAAP financial statements to understand a business and cash flow. But almost all of my entrepreneurial clients have no formal accounting training. But with the Profit First formula Mike Michalowicz's lays out a system for successful cash flow management that is easy to understand. Read the books and see for yourself. Then decide if you can follow the system to finally build the healthy business you want.

5.0 von 5 Sternen You have to read this book! Absolute must for any small business owner! 30. Juni 2014

I just got the book last night and started reading it this morning. WOW! What a completely different approach to managing a business. AWESOME book so far! On top of it, as I was going through one of the assessments in the book, I had questions about something. I emailed Mike (the author) and he actually responded! That says a ton right there! It shows he has the heart of a teacher. So far the book is easy to read and follow, and it is thorough in how it describes things. Very much in line with Mike's other 2 books. The steps he outlines can be done by anyone! That is what makes it brilliant, it is easily doable by anyone! Just get smaller plates! (read the book, you will understand). If you are running a small business and feel like you are working way to hard at it and can't figure out where all the cash is going, you HAVE to read this book! Oh, and I almost NEVER write reviews, so for me to take the time to write this, it has to be good!
