Procrastination in its Simplest Form

Procrastination is known as avoidance behavior. Tasks and responsibilities are postponed. Things that need attention are put on hold. Procrastinators delay the action needed to accomplish their tasks. They wait until the last-minute before they start or do something. As a result, there are times when they fail to meet deadlines or they submit late.

They will always delay what can be done at present and choose to do it later.

It starts early, unconsciously during a one’s childhood. Try to recall, how your studying habits was back then? Do you often think that there’s more time only to realize that you have underestimated time and end up cramming. Regardless of the importance of a task, you always take it lightly and deal with it at a later time.

Try looking at your home, is it organized or is it in chaos? Do you have difficulty putting things back to where you took them? How does your closet look like? Are the clothes neatly folded or is it all mixed up? There is a good chance that you have said the words “later” more often than you should.

Maybe, it’s time to analyze such habits and patterns seriously. They might be signs all along that procrastination has been negatively affecting your life. Don’t procrastinate in changing your habits. Now is the best time to put things in order!

2.0 von 5 Sternen Inadequate solutions to a challenging topic 20. Januar 2015

This book barely scratched the surface of procrastination. It offered little in terms of explaining why people procrastinate at a deeper psychological level, and many of the 20-or-so solutions proposed are too simplistic or even counter-productive:

"Post-it notes are great reminders too." Nothing new about that.
"Return things to their proper place after using them." Does that really make people stop procrastinating?
"Avoid using the words "later" or "just a minute."" May be relevant at some level, but the author offers no explanations (such as how your internal dialogue may be a factor in your procrastinating habits)
"Try to do two things at a time." Most experts seem to believe that multitasking is bad for productivity, not good.
"Just do it." Now, here is a novel concept...

The book is easy to read, though, and might be worth it you are looking for a really quick introduction to the topic and some easy steps to try out, but do not expect your life to change in a flash.

It is a short book,, which is good. Some good ideas, but we all know it is time to just do it. Not a quick fix, it's still all up to you. The check list is a good idea.

This book is a simple quick read. I consider it a friendly reminder of what a person knows they need to do to combat and/or overcome procrastination.
