Kurzbeschreibung

Elven soldier Willow serves the human Kingdom of Bryanae in a bid to overcome her traumatic past. Emotionally crippled and driven by her personal demons, she has buried that past so deeply that she has forgotten it altogether … but it hasn't forgotten her.

Paralyzed by an inexplicable terror, she watches helplessly as old enemies kidnap the Prince. Considered by most of Bryanae to be a coward and a traitor, Willow decides she must confront her past and plunge into the heart of the enemy empire to rescue the Prince.

Aside from the steel blade she wields with lethal expertise, Willow has only dubious allies upon whom to rely—a headstrong private who’s in love with her, an inscrutable winged mage with a hidden agenda, and a dashing but opportunistic captain whom she desires against her better judgment.

An army of fanatical warriors stands in her way. Leading them is the mad and seemingly immortal Warlord who has a personal grudge to settle with Willow: one that spans centuries.

Willow has devoted her life to discipline and now she must bring that discipline to bear. Pain will not stop her. Fear will not stop her. She will rescue the Prince or die trying. Willow has been honing her combat and weaponry skills for a very long time. It’s time to put those skills to good use.

PRINCE OF BRYANAE is an epic fantasy novel filled with intense battles, romance, betrayal, and redemption.

“Prince of Bryanae brought me back to that special place I haven’t visited in a long time … where the author’s energy and love for his or her magical vision is pure and fresh. … It’s the world-building that makes Prince of Bryanae truly sing; it’s so obvious that Jeff Getzin has spent years living in this world, learning this world, falling in love with this world and making this world a place where he can share with us so many wonderful adventures”
— New York Times Bestselling author R. A. Salvatore

“Getzin makes you feel like a part of the intricate and fascinating world he’s created. This is solid storytelling and spicy yarns. Once inside, you won’t want to leave.”
— Mike Freeman, author of The New York Times notable book Bloody Sundays

“This is a splendid book full of adventure and a sympathetic character in Willow. The story has heart and excitement. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a rollicking good fantasy. Jeffrey Getzin is a writer to watch”
— Billie Sue Mosiman, author of Legions of the Dark

“I recommend [Prince of Bryanae] to anyone who enjoys a good story with nonstop action and suspense, combined with strong, memorable characters and an imaginative setting.”
— Scotti Cohn, author of Liberty’s Children

“I haven’t seen a fantasy heroine that I admired and respected this much since reading Elizabeth Moon’s Paksenarrion.”
— Rebecca Kyle, Amazon Top 500 Reviewer

“A novel that will keep all readers entertained and as the journey progresses, [Prince of Bryanae] has an ending that will suit readers fine, but also leave them wanting more.”
— PaulaZone

“Every once in a while a book comes along that can make you both laugh and cry, and keeps you turning page after page on a journey with the characters as the story unfolds. Jeffrey Getzin has created a masterpiece with his debut novel Prince of Bryanae.”
— Sabrina O'Malone, author of Prayers for the Working Mom

5.0 von 5 Sternen Heroic fantasy with a strong female lead 8. November 2010
Von R. Kyle - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Elven Captain Willow lives her life by discipline. She expects nothing less from those around her. Little does anyone realize how fragile that strong surface is beneath.

Childhood terrors are the worst. When people from the horde who'd taken over Willow's birth kingdom come to her new home to wreak havoc, the staunch warrior is paralyzed with fear for the first time in over a hundred years. They kidnap her Prince right before her eyes. Then, the Queen busts Willow down to private.

Devastated, Willow goes AWOL to recover her Prince. With memories from a tortured past haunting her and some dicey friends, including the suave Captain Snyde and far-too-young Tamlevar, the deck is stacked against her. But, Willow's got more than discipline. She's willing to risk everything to stop her new home from being destroyed.

I haven't read a well-written female heroine as strong as this since Elizabeth Moon. What's really surprising is Getzin's ability to write sympathetic and real women. "Prince of Bryanae" is well worth a read for fantasy lovers.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not really my cup of tea 15. Januar 2012
Von Whispering Spirit - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This book had an okay plot, and while it does have a unique twist here and there, alot of what happened has been done and overdone to death before. In some places (like during all the flashbacks) the story gets really tedious and the only reason I didn't stop reading is because my slight ocd issues wouldn't let me.

*This part of the review contains spoilers* Because I really can't explain my dislike without spoiling some of the plot unfortunately.

First issue I had? No one mentioned that that "violence" experienced in her past involved her being raped repeatedly-as a child no less. If I had known that, I would have never bought this book, cheap price or not, thats just something I find extremely distasteful. When I hear bad past I think dead family, maybe killed in front of her or because of her to add to the trauma. Not practically being sold by her mother to the man who destroyed everything she loved to be raped and impregnated.

I might understand it a little more if it improved the plot in some way but Willow didn't even remember her past until the end. Also, if Willow couldn't remember her past, exactly how did she remember her hate for her mother? Or was that just irrational dislike for no random reason at that point. You'd think that something would be wrong when you hate someone that much and couldn't even rememeber why- and if she couldn't remember what happened to her then why would she even freeze up due to her past? If thats the case then why even make her forget what happened other than to throw in a bunch of flashbacks later.

Not only that but then she goes and rapes Snyde. Because regardless of what he did/does later, he did protest it and she did force herself on him. Not to mention that part came out of nowhere and really surved no point other than to give him something to rub in her face later- and at that point her already had more than enough material to hold over her head.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Action-Packed & Deceptively Deep 10. Oktober 2011
Von Carlyle Clark - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

PRINCE OF BRYANAE is subtler and more complex than the slaughter-fest cover would have you believe. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of violence and mayhem, so don't read that the protagonist Willow is an elf and expect a Young Adulty type fantasy. This ain't that, and it ain't for the faint of heart. With that disclaimer, I'll say that for those who do read it, you get an interesting look at the hard-ass, anti-social type character prevalent in fantasy fiction as well as many other genres, but her you get an in-depth looks at what sort of back-story a character/person would have to have to end up that character. And rather than being forced to wade through endless introspection like you might in a literary fiction novel, Getzin delivers it in an excellent pacey piece filled with action and plenty of little and big surprises, twists, and betrayals, which are executed properly. Which is to say it makes sense that the character did what they did rather than it suited the author and the plot to have them do something that was out-of-character. Also, Getzin balances the dark with good bits of humor.

I recommend this novel for anyone who enjoys action-packed fantasy that is dark and at times disturbing, but mixed with humor and three-dimensional characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover, thanks to superb world-building, nonstop action and suspense, an imaginative setting, and strong, memorable characters. I read a lot of fantasy, and Prince of Bryanae kept me engaged and intrigued as well as (or better than) anything I've ever read.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Sick of Vampires and Werewolves, Try Elves ? 20. August 2011
Von Paula L. Phillips - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

When you hear the term fantasy and supernatural ? What is the creatures that pop into your mind , Is it witches, angels , vampires, werewolves or even faeries? , With the craze of supernatural genre hitting our bookshelves, it's not suprisingly we have heard or read all there is about these creatures. However, if we think a little deeper about what is classified as a supernatural -it goes even further with goblins and elves. Not many authors have ventured forth in writing about elves, though Jeffrey Getzin's book Prince of Bryanae has done just that and has proved to be an action-packed and fast-paced novel with just the right hint of fantasy and action scenes to make it exciting to the reader.

Prince of Bryanae takes us into the world of Captain Willow - an elf that is protective and disciplined towards the world, a woman who if asked by others what she was like , would describe her as cold and heartless . Though behind this mask , is a woman who has hidden and buried her childhood and the last 150 years of her life that no-one can see it. However , when her and her army are massacred and the Prince of Bryanae is kidnapped before her eyes whilst frozen to the spot. It is up to Willow to bring and return the Prince to his rightful place, but in doing this - Willow must face her past , the one she has tried so hard to forget. In the journey, Willow is reunited with her mother whom she harbours resents against. Armed with her friend Tamlevar , can they rescue the Prince or will their feelings for each other jepordise the rescue and turn them against each other ?.

A novel that will keep all readers entertained and as the journey progresses , The Prince of Bryanae has an ending that will suit readers fine, but also leave them wanting more. Is their a next book in the near-future , hmmm one titled "The Queen of Byanae"
