PRIMARY CARE: A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH is a unique, comprehensive primary care reference that provides the concise, yet thorough information that primary care providers need in today's fast-paced, collaborative environment. This book is the first of its kind because it is truly collaborative and vastly geographical, having been written by NPs, MDs, PAs, respiratory technicians, and nurses from all over the country. In the past, nurse practitioners have had to settle for reference books written solely by MDs, but PRIMARY CARE: A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH provides NPs with a reference book written for NPs and edited by NPs. This book is based on a body systems framework and covers a multitude of adult disorders and related issues, some of which are not found in other primary care textbooks, including barotrauma, rehabilitation, and domestic violence. The disorders are arranged alphabetically for easy referencing. Each disorder is discussed from a primary care perspective, with the information and approach necessary to care for adult patients in a caring, cost-effective manner.

Buttaro's Primary Care A Collaborative Practice has been a key component in the Family Nurse Practitioner curriculum at the university I am currently attending. It is broken up into body systems and then specific conditions are outlined which makes it very easy to use. It is lacking in some places and can be a little tedious to read at times but overall it is very helpful and with each disease being broken up into sections that include history, physical exam, differentials, and diagnostics it makes it easy to jump right to the information you are looking for. Patient education could be expanded in some sections.

I have been practicing as a nurse practitioner for more than seven years and own several reference books. This is the one I reach for whenever I have a question. It is easy to use and contains all of the information I need. I own three copies, one for each office and one for home. I recommend it to all of the nurse practitioner students I precept.
