This book is great for people who love to spend their time searching for hidden vocabulary in word banks in order to complete exercises in an untimely and ineffective manner. I am very quick to pick up a language, but this book only made me dislike German more, and dread learning it. I tried quite hard to understand the lessons, but words are expected to be translated that have never been introduced before.
Example: You will be prompted to translate ("X, Y, Z") into the German plural, but are only given "X" and "Y" to study from. How is a person supposed to magically pull random German vocabulary out of their head without first being taught said words?
I had an extremely hard time trying to complete exercises because the book does not provide adequate explanations for WHY words are conjugated, etc., the way they are. It simply states this "X" in English is that "X" in German. OK, ready for the next lesson?
This book would be helpful if you didn't actually need to produce German in real life--save your money for Rosetta Stone.
